| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Jul 13, 2009 Pours an amber color with almost no head. Candi sugar and caramel aroma. Flavor is caramel and nut up front and the finish is smooth with a bit of light grassy hops. Still a fan of american hop profiles but this one is a little more pronounced on the hop side than what I am used to from the english style. Creamy texture to this too makes this go down smooth. Flavors of caramel, cheerios, light melon and citrus, some dry wood and a hint of resin on the finish. Near medium body is smooth and sessionable, and just dry enough on the finish. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 26, 2009 Enjoyed from a 12oz bottle in a whiskey snifter. The beer pours a deep copper to medium brown, with a nice but short just off-white head. Nice notes of malt come through in the aroma: toasted bread, raisons, rich toffee, and some slightly burnt caramel. The palate is malt-forward, showing a heavy hand with the use of English character malts, with Victory, Crystal 40-60, and a bit of special roast making appearances. Hops balance the sweetness, but give little in the way of character. The finish is neutral to slightly sweet. Overall, a beer that can compete with the best English Pales on the planet (i.e, Fuller’s ESB). cprochak (445), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
