12oz. Thanks to explosivebeer. Pours a copper, semi-clear with a small but well retained white head. Aroma shows a nice balanced maltinesss, rich with some subtle piney hops. Reminds me a bit of Southern Star Pine Belt or a less hoppy Dale’s. Just a nice balanced aroma. Flavor is smooth, malty, easy drinking, mildly dry. A toasty, grainy finish. This is a fine beer, really, quite good for the style. Perhaps a little underrated.

Aroma: Nice malt aroma with a lingering of oak and hops in the nose.
Appearance: Light Brown in color, clear with a thin head.
Flavor: Nice flavor this was smooth and silky like a ESB should with a nice oaky flavor that was light but present.
Palate: Nice Dry finish with a very good overall Mouthfeel.
Overall: A very nice beer. I would have liked more oak but this is an ESB so it should be subtle.

Love the pale 31 but this beer just didn’t do that much for me. It has some nice malt flavors and aromas but not much hop character. It may also be the oak flavor that turns me off abit, probably because most of the other oak barrel beers I have tried are higher in gravity like arrogant bastard oak.

Thanks to HogTownHarry. Appearance: Nice orange amber with a slight haze, small white head. Aroma: Sweet and malty, slightly floral and yeasty. Nice. Flavour: Floral, caramel and subtle fruitiness with slight pepper in the finish. Very enjoyable.

3/2/09 From 22oz bottle. Aroma is almost all malt with sold roast, light caramel, very low sourness and only the lightest bit of earthy hop flora. Appearance is clear copper with a very well maintained off-white head. Flavor is dead on with the aroma, only the sweetness and roast are an even balance. Bittering is very low, and again just slight with earth. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a moderate carb texture and light creaminess. Overall, an excellent example of the style that doesn’t incorporate the PNW hops that so often make the American examples a bastardization of the style.

smells like caramel apples. sugary smell like honey. pours cloudy brown/orange, nearly non-existent head. tastes very sweet (like honey and water), light on hops and a little fruity (can’t identify exact fruits). flavor starts strong, but drops off quickly. a tad boring. very carbonated. light and crisp mouthfeel.

22 oz. bottle. Pours a hazy amber with a thin-moderate off-white head that lasted through two sips and left virtually no lace. Mild aroma of malt, apples, brown sugar and some faint citrus. The flavor is malt up front followed by an earthy flavor that reminded me of dead leaves in the Fall. There is also some unsweetened orange pekoe tea in the flavor. Dries out a bit towards the finish with some mild bitterness. Medium bodied. Probably not something I’d look to pick up again.
