5/16/09 on draft at Brouwer’s. Aroma is light true pepper with some background sweetness, simple but good. Appearance is hazy gold with a very well maintained white head. Flavor is smooth with light pepper, earthy malt and low bitterness. Mouthfeel has a slightly low carb feel for the style and is medium bodied. Overall, very good and as sessionable as the style should be.

Tap at Sacramento Brewing Co. Sligthly hazy golden color, with bright white head. Aromas is banana and clove. Taste is similar with a slight smokiness that I can’t figure out. It’s good though.

Bottle at Church Key, North Beach, San Francisco, with Phyllis, 26th Mar 09. Cloudy golden with a very clean citrus aroma. Yeasty, bready, almost meaty taste in places. Worth checking out.

On tap at City Beer Store in SF. Described as a "light summer ale," which didn’t really do this justice. However I’d put it more in the Belgian wit or Belgian golden ale category. Cloudy golden color with a nice white head and solid retention. Aroma is pale malt, yeast, light fruits, and a little funk. Flavor is more of the same, with a little honey and fruity esters. Really light and refreshing on the palate. An ideal summer beer.

Tap at Sacramento Brewing Company. Hazy golden color with a foamy white head. Definite aromas of sour and fruit. Full bodied with mild carbonation. Flavor is mildly Bretty with light stone fruit. Really rather peachy. Finish has a metallic note, but mild funk is the key note. Laced a bit. Very refreshing. Compares more than favorably to Ommegang Bier de Mars. Love saisons.

On tap @ the Hopmonk Tavern. Hazy light golden with a one finger white head, fading to a thick ring and tattered film. Aroma was fairly faint, so I did flavor first. Flavor has a bit of orange rind and zest, as well as some light yeast andherbal hoppiness. There seems to be a bit of diacetyl as well, which takes away from the snappiness that I think a saison should have. Once this warmed, an aroma did emerge! Mainly brighter citrus than the flavor had, with a little bit of lemon and grass. Semi-dry finish, minimum bitterness. Low carbonation with a light to moderate body. Was hoping for more from this.
