Extreme Beer Fest 2/15/08: I thought this was a very complex beer. Initial taste was of a stout, with notes of smoke, roast, bitterness. Then the bourbon started to kick in, followed by a sweet chocolate finish. I thought the bourbon complemented this beer very well.

EBF NOTB. Black pour with light brown head. Strong bourbon, roasted malt, and chalky chocolate in the aroma. The flavor is the same, but the alcohol seemed well hidden. The palate was a little thin.

sampled on tap at the San Diego Strong Ale Festival Nov 2008, an event shared with what seemed liked hundreds of ratebeerians and enjoyed mostly through a straw, since my face was a bloody mess of scabs and stitches. Solid black beer with a white head. malty aroma with hints of cofee an chocolate. flavor was strong with bitter choclate and cofee and some woods notes. finish strong with lots of alchol warming.

2007 PP SAF. Deep black in color with a nice off white fluffy head. Deep caramel malty aroma. Vanilla, bourbon oak notes. Chocolatety notes. Chocolatety caramel toffee flavor. Sweet tasting. Finish is chocolatety. Full bodied. Well balanced. Great.

Sampled at the PP SAF. Lots of bourbon and wood on the aroma of this Black beer. Coffee aromas made it through as well. Flavors were more wood and bitter dark chocolate. Nice creamy finish with a lot of alcohol warming. Pretty darn good.

2007 PP SAF. Black black color. Aroma of bourbon, chocolate, and black licorice? Flavor is pretty similar. Noticeable alcohol.

On tap at PP Strong Ale Festival. Creamy dark tan head. Pitch black color. Smells great with lots of chocolate. Full flavor of the same. Mmmmmmm good.
