Commercial Description:
A singularly distinctive beer that represents our finest brewing efforts, Walker’s Reserve is an elegant dark ale featuring robust flavors of espresso, caramel and bittersweet chocolate. This wood-conditioned brew employs five specialty malts along with smooth silky oats for added complexity and flavor. Gentle English Goldings and spicy American Cascade hops together lend a perfect finish to this big, bittersweet ale. Somewhere between porter and stout, this unfiltered and bottle-conditioned beer is produced in small batches for the true connoisseur.

Draught at City Beer, San Francisco, 24th Feb 2008. Black with just a line of tan head. Looks fantastic and beguiles you with an aroma of oaky roasted malt. The flavour doesn’t disappoint and the perfect palate rounds it off. This is very, very drinkable and a great oaky porter.

From a 22 oz bottle it poured a very dark and opaque brown with a small tan head and little lacing. Nose is of dark chocolate, with fruits and coffee, and some hard to identify light spices. Mouthfeel very rich and creamy. Flavor of dark malts and the fruit again. Long lingering finish with the malts showing mostly. Very good porter.

Draught at the FW taproom. Dark brown with a beige head. Roasty chocolate aroma. Roasty chocolate flavors without too much bitterness. Slight acidity. Medium and smooth body. Nice, solid porter. (3.7) Rerate: On tap at Zodo’s. Pure chocolate goodness. Really good stuff. Rerate: Draught at the brewery. I’ going to have to rescind that Zodo’s rating. A good porter, but not really what I remembered.

Pours dark brown with a light brown head. Smells of roasted malt, some caramel, hints of spice. Tastes spicy with some hints of caramel. Watery mouthfeel. Finish yields some basic sweet malt.

Pours dark brown with a medium head. In the glass it’s just slightly opaque, with a little burgundy highlites showing through when held up to the light. Aroma of chocolate, coffee and dark malts with a fair amount of (sour) fruit; plums and cherries. Medium-heavy body. Semi-sweet fruity finish.

650 ml bottle from Bevmo. Pours a deep dark, almost opaque, brown color with a big tan head. The head lasts the duration of the drink and never completely fades away. The aroma is medium-light and slightly sweet with dates, raisins and plums. The flavor is a bit subdued and is characterized by burnt toast, coffee, chocolate malt and earth. The mouthfeel is very full and creamy. The finish is long in duration with lingering mocha coffee flavors and a heavy malt palate. Overall: This is a better than average porter, very malty, but I can not help but feel that the barrel aging mellowed this one just a bit too much and took away its big bold edge. Recommended.

On tap @ the Stone World Bistro. Pours deep amber brown with thin tan head. The aroma is roasty and mildly sweet and doesn’t seem to have a hint of the burnt malts I come to expect from a Porter but abundantly present I the flavor. The taste if full rich malt roastiness that steers toward being burnt and charred. The flavor blends from roasty to burnt from front to back of the experience. Full flavored Porter that includes mild molasses and a hint of pine hops.
