Commercial Description:
A singularly distinctive beer that represents our finest brewing efforts, Walker’s Reserve is an elegant dark ale featuring robust flavors of espresso, caramel and bittersweet chocolate. This wood-conditioned brew employs five specialty malts along with smooth silky oats for added complexity and flavor. Gentle English Goldings and spicy American Cascade hops together lend a perfect finish to this big, bittersweet ale. Somewhere between porter and stout, this unfiltered and bottle-conditioned beer is produced in small batches for the true connoisseur.

This beer keeps getting better each time I try it. Pours dark brown with a very short brown head. Toasty malt, oak, cream, chocolate, tobacco, and coffee. Taste is sharp with more bitter coffee, dark chocolate, oak, and some maple syrup and a cascade hop finish. Very nice.

Aroma is slightly sweet. Whisps of an off-white head. Taste is better than the aroma. Very subdued, with a nice oaky aroma and taste. Just a solid beer.. Okay, let’s try and organize this: Aroma: slightly subdued and sour mash, but nice. Taste: oaky in a marginal way, but smooth and not overwhelming. Pairs well with the oak, but is very mild. Decent.

This dark brown ale poured with a decent tan head and a roasted malt aroma. The flavor is intense with elements of coffee and chocolate, and a soft hoppy finish. Very well-balanced and tasty.

Pours a dark black with a thin tan head. Good beer, but has a little too much carbonation for my taste. Has a mild bitter finish that lessens towards the end.

This is a good porter, but when cold it’s almost like a stout. A bit of hoppiness that levels out as the beer warms is the most positive thing I can say about it. It also has some rich chocolate taste and reminded me of Santa Barbara. (Actually bought this one again on accident! Still good!)

On tap at pizza port Carlsbad. Super dark brown, almost black. Some roasty aroma and taste, but mild enough that I still like it. Medium body. Not too sweet or too dry. Reasonably easy to drink. Very little head. Small bubble ring. Little head.

The Dan Journal #116. Tasted 10/18/07. 22oz bomber. Almost opaque with bright amber highlights. Moldy beige head. Maple syrupy aromas with a mild cinnamon note. Nice nose. Medium bodied and smooth. Bready vanilla malt flavors. Caramel and a mild cola flavor. cocoa note. Sticky sweet and tasty. Very well crafted.
