Aroma of wood/maple, caramel and pine cone-y hops - really nice. Flavor is very rich and barleywine-esque. Tons of malty sweetness, caramel, toasted malt, toffee, wood, dark fruit, cherries, pepper and a boatload of citrusy, piney hops. Has a pleasant (and non-harsh) lingering bitter finish. Although the alcohol content is present, it is pretty well-hidden. Very full, round and creamy smooth on the palate with moderate carbonation; glorious. Just a beautiful beer, loved it! Overly hoppy aroma and a nice copper color with a thin head. Aroma is like double bastard with its over the top in almost all senses. Great brew! Gurst (338), Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA

Hints of alcohol keep it interesting, while the finish plays with some mixed fruit, spice, and toffee. Strong malt taste throughout, something between caramel, toffee, and buttered toast. frylock (1026), Buffalo, New York, USA

Hoppy grapefruit aroma with notes of biscuity malts and pine. Some fruits, pears and white grape. Light sweetness, followed by good dose of spicy hop bitterness, finish dry and oaky with the slightest hint of warmth. barleyPops (1081), Quad-Cities, Illinois, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 21, 2005 Pours a small tan head that settles down quickly into a thin cap that goes along for the ride. Hazy, deep copper hued ale. Massively hoppy nose, fruity, juicey and resiny with plenty of piney, citrusy, grapefruity and notes of over ripe pears, yummy! Thick malts, caramel, grainy. Big hops and big malts, nice balance. Alcohol evident. Finish is almost dry, fruity and juicey. Very nice, if yer a hophead, which i happen to be! Many thanks to Brock_Landers for this bottle! Wish i had a few more of these to age a bit. kyzr (1127), Belgrade, Montana, USA

Great combo of malt to hop. With a nice big finish that keeps you wanting more. Thought it might be a little more on the hop side, but still great ale. drfabulous (1275), Columbia, Missouri, USA
