Aroms is of caramel, brown sugar, slight oxidized character, some mixed hoppiness. Flavor is mix of hard caramel, brown sugar and a strong bitterness carring in some citrus and and spicey hops. A big malt with even bigger hop bitterness. Finishes very bitter leaving only a hit of the malt in the aftertaste. Light to medium body, a bit thin for this big of a beer. Malt flavor reminiscent of an English Strong Ale, but with an intense hop infusion. Fairly bitter, raw sourness on the palate. brentfeesh (1039), Gadsden, Alabama, USA

Poured hazy amber with ruby leanings. The aroma had caramel and toasted malt. Really floral and bright. Nice hoppy aromas as it warmed. I noted spruce, citrus peal, and spicy/pepper hops followed by caramel malt. Quite complex really. Light to medium body that was crisp with a lightly bitter finish. An excellent brew. Really glad to have tried it. apoptosis (1316), Long Island, New York, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 10, 2005 Updated: Apr 27, 2006Great reddish-brown body with a light, frothy head around the sides of the glass. Dry, and not as sweet as the aroma would have you believe it would be. Highly complex: it begins with a bite and mellows to allow hickory and smoked chocolate notes to linger. The nose is sweet, candied fruits. Very heavy with a strong alcohol presence. notalush (2690), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 10, 2005 Updated: Aug 11, 2006[the newest batch of this beer is not nearly as good - I think it may be filtered - most certainly it isn’t as aggressive or impressive] This is one aggressive beer - bountiful hop aroma comes from a thick, copper body and stick white lace - hints of brown sugar and maple syrup in the aroma as well - sticky and sweet, but not cloying, because the hop assault won’t let the sweetness overwhelm you - brown sugar, oak, strawberries, a raspberry liquor-ish flavor, and always hops, hops, hops - killer stuff. | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 5, 2005 Clear amber with a semi-fizzy head. Aroma of orange rind, yeast and toffee. Singed oak flavor. Hops, hops, hops. Malt combination creates a smoky complexity, paired with something that tastes like spoiled grapefruit left on the counter overnight. Blah. ratman197 (3256), Arvada, Colorado, USA
