Commercial Description:
Oak-aged Doppelbock is a full-bodied lager with a deep reddish-brown color. We’ve brewed it in the classic German tradition, with noble Hallertauer and Columbus hops added to Pale and Chocolate malts and a large portion of Munich malt . As a result, Detonator offers a malty aroma and palate, which is balanced by its relatively dry finish, plus the subtly melded character of the robust ales and fine Merlot which previously filled the oak. This lager is available seasonally in bottles and on draught.

Dark brown pour, almost no head. Aroma is malty, caramel and a little sour. Flavor is a little sweet. A touch of roastiness and lots of caramel. Mainly just a caramel flavor with a touch f chocolate and roastiness.

Bomber. Poured dark brown with slight off-white head. Pretty sweet and roasty aroma, though perhaps missing something. Taste is very malty with the roast coming back into play. Definitely an easy drinker, despite a somewhat full mouthfeel. I’m a fan.

Bottle shared by MaxxDaddy. Roasty, mellow, lightly vegetal. Slightly herbal. Roasty, with a nice smoky flavor. Balanced and tasty, easy to put down. Good beer.

Bomber. Nice-looking extreme dark brown with an even, thin light tan head. Aroma of sweetness and light herbal spice. Some dark fruits and a hint of hops. Taste is initially mildly sweet with some light dry notes in the middle that continue on to the finish. The alcohol is overall well-hiddden. This certainly is a superior dopplebock with regard to American attempts, and it negotiates the style well, producing a clean, strong brew with subtle flavors. Will revisit.

Very dark brown color, big head settling relatively quickly. Wonderful notes of chocolate and roasted nuts, notable hops give it a grapefruit-raspberry fruitiness that fades to a moderately bitter and dry finish. Not super rich but the flavor is very well rounded and easy to drink. Alcohol is clearly present but not a problem. At $4.29/single this is more of a special occasion beer than a regular.

Pours a lovely dark brown with a small ring of off-white foam and minimal lacing. Lovely chocolate & spicy, yeasty nose. Flavour is very well blended - sweet and lightly roasted malting with dark plum and even tart notes and a nice sharp, hoppy finish that eventually warms nicely. Body is thick and chewy, carbonation faint but decent. This is a wonderful doppelbock, and will be interesting to compare to the local Merry Monks seasonal.
