Commercial Description:
Oak-aged Doppelbock is a full-bodied lager with a deep reddish-brown color. We’ve brewed it in the classic German tradition, with noble Hallertauer and Columbus hops added to Pale and Chocolate malts and a large portion of Munich malt . As a result, Detonator offers a malty aroma and palate, which is balanced by its relatively dry finish, plus the subtly melded character of the robust ales and fine Merlot which previously filled the oak. This lager is available seasonally in bottles and on draught.

Pours a lovely dark brown with a small ring of off-white foam and minimal lacing. Lovely chocolate & spicy, yeasty nose. Flavour is very well blended - sweet and lightly roasted malting with dark plum and even tart notes and a nice sharp, hoppy finish that eventually warms nicely. Body is thick and chewy, carbonation faint but decent. This is a wonderful doppelbock, and will be interesting to compare to the local Merry Monks seasonal.

Pours a nice mahogany with an off white head. Toasty malt and dark raisin/fruit aroma. Medium malty body, slightly jarring alc. bite. Sharp sweetness in the flavour. More balanced overall than I remember Merry Monks last bottling to be.

650ml bottle. Pours with a gorgeous head and leaves lacing on the glass. Dopplebock aromas: toasty malt. Killer mouthfeel. Good body with dark roasty flavors and a slight alcohol punch. Nothing at all is off or disturbing and it’s a very nice drink. Would be an awesome inclusion in a dopplebock tasting session and I’d be honored to taste this on tap.

This is a style I am not familiar with at all. Poured a dark, almost burnt, brown. Aroma is malty and rich, raisins, backberries, caramel and some vanilla struggling to conduct the symphony. Flavor is as I expected, a snap shot of the aroma. But everything is in harmony, no dis-jointed notes. Very nice.

Good but mild aroma, spectacular appearance with big lingering head, frothy smooth palate, good brown-sugar-tinged flavor though mild. Thick, rich and creamy palate.

Drunk 8/8.Clear dark brown color with frothy tan head. Malty darkfruit aroma. The taste was sweet with plum and maple notes. Smooth body.

Bottle. A dark red brown beer with a big beige head. The aroma is light roasted malt, chocolate and rye bread, so is the taste, light sweet. Medium body with a light dry finish.
