Commercial Description:
Oak-aged Doppelbock is a full-bodied lager with a deep reddish-brown color. We’ve brewed it in the classic German tradition, with noble Hallertauer and Columbus hops added to Pale and Chocolate malts and a large portion of Munich malt . As a result, Detonator offers a malty aroma and palate, which is balanced by its relatively dry finish, plus the subtly melded character of the robust ales and fine Merlot which previously filled the oak. This lager is available seasonally in bottles and on draught.

2006 bottle that I finally got around to opening. Nice dark brown color with a medium off-white head. Aroma has some nice roasty malt, chocolate, and fruit. Flavor is very sweet and malty with some oak, dark fruit, chocolate, and a nice heavy sweetness. Nice mouthfeel. A very nice and robust Doppelbock.

Bottle: Ruby pour with a large creamy beige head. Nice lacing. Aroma od sweet and malts. Fruity also. Strawberry jam comes to mind. The taste is a rich; malty, earthy, and bready. Light chocolate tones too. Amazingly solid body with tons of character. Well done by Fish Tale!

12oz bottle from discount liqour in Milwaukee. Dark brown with small off-white head. Aroma of deep chocolate, dough, mild hops, light alc, somewhat smoky, pleasing. Flavor is chocolate, vanilla, oaky, roasted malt, semi-sweet, light alc, cookie, some dark fruits, very tasty. Med-full body, creamy. Very nice, this brewery always impresses.

A wonderful creamy hint of dark fruit and toffee caramel combo in aroma, slight anise tinged, slightly sweet German malt, with just the slightest dark fruit jam hints, maybe hints of molasses also. If you have a fresh palate,to appreciate the subtle complexities of this wonderful lager, you’ll appreciate the gem that this is

Bottle. Thanks to Santa. Pours a deep purplish brown body with nice head. Sweet malty aroma, love that dopplebock smell. Flavor is sweet, heavy maltiness, slightly dry. Very smooth.
