Strong vinous grapeiness. Rich chocolate aroma that really comes forward as it warms. Some light spiciness and a touch of hops. Appearance: Dark brown with strong ruby highlights. Off white head was full and creamy with great retention. Good lacing. Flavor: Rich malt with a strong caramel overtone. Some toasted nuts, chocolate, and light coffee. Vinous grape and raisiny notes. Some noticeable hoppiness into the finish with grassy and earthy notes. Woodiness really comes forward near the finish. A bit more hop bitterness than I was expecting. Finishes medium sweet. Palate: Medium-high body. Moderate carbonation. Overall: This one seemed a little jumbled to me. It just never really pulled together. sliffy (2012), Columbus, Ohio, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 12, 2007 Good pour, a deep, dark brown body with slight red highlights and a thick & creamy, well sustained dark tan head. Nice lacing. It has a sweet aroma of lightly roasted dark malts, chocolate, dark fruits and a mild Brazil nut bitterness. There’s a light touch of sourness that’s added to the flavor, but not so great as to be distracting. A really nice example of the style.

Serving: 22 oz bottle from bitbucket (Nov 2006). Thanks Bob! I’ve been looking forward to trying this one!
Tasting Notes
Aroma: Chocolate and dark malts with some fruitiness and nutty characteristics.
Appearance: Dark brown color, nearly opaque. It has a dense, creamy tan-colored head that is well maintained. Eventually the head diminishes somewhat to leave a lasting, creamy and foamy crown and cloud-like lacing. The visible carbonation is quite lively.
Flavor: Contains coffee, chocolate malt, and is somewhat nutty. Some fruitiness becomes more apparent toward the finish. This beer has a rich, roasty, and mildly bitter finish. The flavor is well balanced overall and the alcohol (8.5% ABV) is very well hidden.
Palate: Medium-full to full body. Smooth and creamy mouthfeel with fine, smooth carbonation..
Overall: This is a GREAT Doppelbock. It easily rivals Ayinger Celebrator! It could also quite possibly be mistaken for a Porter in a blind tasting. fishingnet (1047), Brandon, Florida, USA

Pours a clear brown with ruby highlights with a small light tan head that settles quickly to a thin ring with minimal lacing. Aroma of caramel malt, floral hops, and a little roasted malt. Taste is balanced toward the malt but still has a good clean bitterness and a sweet caramel aftertaste. Full mouthfeel that finishes dry and clean. josuemucho (86), Orlando, Florida, USA
