Commercial Description:
Oak-aged Doppelbock is a full-bodied lager with a deep reddish-brown color. We’ve brewed it in the classic German tradition, with noble Hallertauer and Columbus hops added to Pale and Chocolate malts and a large portion of Munich malt . As a result, Detonator offers a malty aroma and palate, which is balanced by its relatively dry finish, plus the subtly melded character of the robust ales and fine Merlot which previously filled the oak. This lager is available seasonally in bottles and on draught.

Dark brown with big caramel aroma. Roasted malt and nuts in the flavor. Another lovely beer from these crazy bastards.

Aroma of sweet chocolate, roasted malt, caramel, vanilla, and nuts. Pour is a clear reddish brown with a nice light tan head. Good lacing. Flavors of chocolate, caramel, toasted, nutty malt, vanilla, and wood. The alcohol is very well hidden. Creamy, medium mouthfeel. A very nice doppelbock.

12oz labeled as 8.5%, pours dark brown with a hint of red and huge tan head. nose is a pleasent toasted grains, nuts, caramel, and bakers chocolate. flavor has a nice balance of caramel, chocolate, vanilla, almonds, with nice toasted malts. hop profile is very minimal. finishes dry with mild red grapes. mouthfeel is rich and creamy with no alcohol presence. a very solid doppelbock and one of my favorites of the style.4.0.

1/16/07, 12oz bottle, okay this isn’t living up to the 4 i previously gave it. body is too thin, flavor seems too straight forward with mild notes of nuts and baker’s chocolate. didn’t get much merlot notes. clean finish. this is just a solid dopplebock and nothing special. 3.7.

Pours a deep, rich looking mahogany with a very well retained and creamy beige head. Aroma is lovely malt, caramel, toffee, earthy all around. Alcohol is masterfully hidden. Also noticed are grapes and freshly fallen wood aroma. Flavor is mostly strong roasty caramel and tannic barrel compositions. Powerful alcohol warming is evident but I still can’t really taste it, this is a great Dopplebock. Some vinous character comes sweeping in on the backnote. Palate seems just right, creamy, but no hinderance of well defined individualistic characteristics. Bravo! A great offering in an all too often monotonous style. I love the way new life is breathed into this by a fantastic brewery.

Deep dark brown, almost black with medium off white head. Aroma is of burnt malts, bitter chocolate, and light smoke. Flavor was quite different than the aroma. Some bitter hops, malty ripened fruits and maybe a slight coffee taste. A pretty dry bitter finish.

355ml brown bottle. Deep mahognay brown tone, large head, tan in colour. Creamy frothy appearance. Aroma is a bit lighter than i had hoped but does contain light chocolate malt, slightly fruity with a trace of alcohol. Flavour is dark malt, coffee, dark chcoolate. Aftertaste is woody and chocolately.

A fabulous addition to any beer drinkers list. This is a dark rich beer with apparent presence of dark fruits, caramel and toffee. it is a tad thin at he beginning, but the rest is well worth your time.

The aroma is clean with herbal hops lightly toasted malt, and toffee. The appearance is dark red with a medium head. The flavor is bitter and sweet with the same elements from the aroma. The palate is thin. Not as special as I was expecting but not bad.
