Commercial Description:
Oak-aged Doppelbock is a full-bodied lager with a deep reddish-brown color. We’ve brewed it in the classic German tradition, with noble Hallertauer and Columbus hops added to Pale and Chocolate malts and a large portion of Munich malt . As a result, Detonator offers a malty aroma and palate, which is balanced by its relatively dry finish, plus the subtly melded character of the robust ales and fine Merlot which previously filled the oak. This lager is available seasonally in bottles and on draught.

bottle thanks to secret santa! it appeared in my glass as a deep brown liquid, and smelled like tons of sweet malt and some oceany salt. the flavor and finish had some intriguing lingering astringency, and it took me a while to realize that it must be from the oak- it’s very pleasant! an extraordinarily malty beer despite a medium-dry finish, and it leaves some chocolatey flavors. clearly in the upper echelon of doppelbocks. thanks santa!

This is really a pretty lovely beer - gorgeously colored, malty but thinnish because of the wine influence. Salty and peppery at the same time, this avoids excessive sweetness with woody elements, and a good dollop of softening unfiltered yeast. A bit bready, winey and salty at the finish when fully warm. Quite good! Thanks to Andre!

Nice looking brew, dark amber with tan head. Malty aromas. Feel in the mouth is a little thin. Starts slightly sweet, finishes coffee/smokey.

Poursa deep brown hue. Light light tan head. Aromas of chocolate, honey, roasted malt. Flavors of the same with a smooth finish and easy drinkaility although there was a light unpleasant bitter/sourness.

Pours with a deep red-brown body topped by a medium thick head with a good amount of lacing. It’s sweet and malty with a slight roastiness and a nice caramel note. Full bodied, smooth and a touch warming.

A brown beer with a small brown head. The aroma is somewhat light with notes of wood, caramel, and alcohol, on a sweet background. The flavor is sweet with notes of over ripe fruits and light notes of alcohol. Nice.

Thanks HairoftheDog! Pours a very dark red/brown color with no head and no lacing. Aroma is full of chocolate and roasted malts with a slight alcohol undertone. Flavor is very similar, lots of roastiness and warm (borderline hot). Kind of nutty in the aftertaste.

Deep dark brown, short off-white head that settles to a ring around the edge of the snifter, good lacing too. Aroma is dark sweet smoky, fruits and chocolates. Smooth thick palate, feels like it’s coating my mouth with cool liquid chocolate sauce. The end is caramel with a molasses tang - hmmm, this would be a good beer to pair with pancakes!
