Commercial Description:
Oak-aged Doppelbock is a full-bodied lager with a deep reddish-brown color. We’ve brewed it in the classic German tradition, with noble Hallertauer and Columbus hops added to Pale and Chocolate malts and a large portion of Munich malt . As a result, Detonator offers a malty aroma and palate, which is balanced by its relatively dry finish, plus the subtly melded character of the robust ales and fine Merlot which previously filled the oak. This lager is available seasonally in bottles and on draught.

Dark amber, almost black in appearance. A fair amount of foamy white head that stays till the last drop. Smells of very sweet malts and some smoky burnt wood, possibly some vanilla and butterscotch. Tastes unlike any Doppelbock I have ever had. Lots of sweet sweet malts, and the oak aged’ness is defintely present. Medium bodied and somewhat syrupy sticky mouthfeel. EtOH isnt very evident. A good dessert beer perhaps.

I was thrilled to find this available in Madison, WI. The body is a very dark brown with a little amber light showing through. The aroma is coffee and maple with chocolate. There are also fall leaves. The taste is light coffee with some sweet honey. The flavors are subtle. There is also some bourbon. A smooth and awesome dopplebock. Thanks for being my proofreader, Larry.

Poured dark brown with a thin light brown head that diminished quickly. Aroma: malty, thick, chocolate, caramel, toffee, and roasted bread. The flavor was burnt bread, roast, caramel, and woody. Medium malty body with a burnt finish.

12 oz. Bottle. A least one year old. Pours a murky dark crimson color with little head and some lacing. Malty, slightly acidic nose. Smooth flavor with notes of chocolate, vanilla, wood, and caramel. Very nice beer.

Bottle courtesy of Footbalm in trade. Pours brown with little head. Aroma and flavor very muted caramel. Lacking for a doppel. No wine character like description suggests.

Clear and dark brown with little head. Very malty aroma with raisen and caramel and a bit of tartness. Big caramel malt juice flavor with some hints of chocolate and some chalkiness and bitterness in the finish. I don’t get any oak flavor but maybe some tannins. Complex and good but not as smooth as some I’ve had.
