There is a distinct flavor that I really can’t put my finger on but it made we want more and more. The beer poured a dark brown in color and the head was pretty thin. The flavor, as mentioned, was wonderful with some tones of caramel, toffee, nuttiness, and maltiness. Highly recommended if you can get your hands on it. xenthem0nk (101), Oregon, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 26, 2005 Pours flat brown. Carmels and chocolates in the nose. Appearance is flat but it looks thick and flavor filled. Very malty sweet taste. Some hops and alchohol (which hid perfectly until the aftermath) gave a slight tinge upon lingering in the mouth after swallowing. Palate is thick but not overtly, it has a soft carbination. I will be drinking this again for sure. egajdzis (3644), Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA

Aroma of citrus fruits, sweet malts, port and light vanilla oak. Taste of light roast, chocolate, caramel, nuts, vanilla, merlot, and finished with an alcohol burn. Full bodied doppelbock. brewbandit (312), Marietta, Georgia, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 4, 2005 2003 or 2004 bottle (not sure) thanks to btg! Awesome bonus beer. Pours a medium brown with some oranges and bright auburn tints. Deep ruby highlights when held to the light and a moderate beige head. Aroma of light oak, orange flavored chocolate, spicy hops and a hint of clean lager yeast. Some drying alcohol or perhaps bitter hops on the backend of the aroma. Flavor begins uniquely dry, spicy and quite hoppy, with notes of wood, citrus, dark black cherries and some sweetness finally coming on in the middle. Warming alcohol sensation, more earthy, lightly roasted malt. Baker’s chocolate, caramel, more citrus on the finish. Moderately acidic from the oak, but it’s well done, not overdone. Medium body, perhaps not as thick as I would like, and a bit too much bitterness and bite, but the complexity of flavors is outstanding. tiggmtl (4311), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 2, 2005 Strong, malty, dark fruit aroma has notes of oak, vanilla, earth, smoke. Clear dark brown with decent white head that recedes to lasting cover with some lacing. Strong malty flavour of brown sugar covered nuts with a fair bitterness and some strong herbal resiny hops. Medium body and fairly low carbonation. Sampled at the post-XBF05 gathering with ClarkVV, Eyedrinkale and Rastacouere. Rastacouere (5565), Montréal, Quebec, Canada
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jan 31, 2005 Post-EBF at Clark’s. Dark copper. Serious off-white head, fully lasting. Strong earthy barrel aroma, mild whiskey alcohol, lots of smoky and peaty character. Bold toffee and grass, brown sugar and toasted grains. Tasty earthy malts, very big maltiness in fact, brilliantly nutty soaked in a chocolate sauce and slapped around a bit with a leafy dose of hops that bring a balancing acidity to the mix. Very low carbonation, medium bodied. Well this sure was one of the best barrel-aging work of the night to me. Thanks Clark! Eyedrinkale (3209), Astoria, New York, USA
