Commercial Description:
Oak-aged Doppelbock is a full-bodied lager with a deep reddish-brown color. We’ve brewed it in the classic German tradition, with noble Hallertauer and Columbus hops added to Pale and Chocolate malts and a large portion of Munich malt . As a result, Detonator offers a malty aroma and palate, which is balanced by its relatively dry finish, plus the subtly melded character of the robust ales and fine Merlot which previously filled the oak. This lager is available seasonally in bottles and on draught.

Pours a dark brown, small off-white head. Aroma is strong cherries, oak, and alcohol. Flavor is mellow, malt oak, "coffee biterness and slickness". Very nice brew, thanks to HerftyDrF for this tasty brew!

Dark hazy mahogany and browns, small light tan head. Complex aromas of rich sweet toffee, caramel, vanilla, light smoke and wood with a slight vinous edge. Well balanced with a notes of caramel, date, fig, light roasted coffee, some cherry and oak. Lighter side of medium bodied, lively carbonation, semi-bitter finish. A unique doppel....

Deep red bordering on brown. Malt driven, strange, hearty and earthy aroma with a hint of caramel, dark fruit and oak. Deep, characterful malt driven flavor with a hardly a touch of oak flavor (compared to their other barrel aged beers). An odd range of flavors. Notes of chocolate, caramel, coffee, pit fruit and a hint of cellar mustiness. But, not exactly the malt flavor that I desire in a Doppelbock.

Slightly hazy, crimson lager with a small, creamy, lightly-tanned head. Smells like caramel, mesquite, tofee, tawny port and a hint of vanilla. The flavor is perfeclty balanced with notes of dark fruit, but is a bit thin. Oak, alcohol and toffee. Light to medium bodied with a silky mouthfeel and lively carbonation. Lengthy, bitter finish. Well done by the fine folks at Fish Tale!

Muddy light brown with little head. Oak, malt, carmel, toffee, and sour citrus on the nose. Heavey palate w/sweetness that lingers. Oak, vanilla, charcoal, carmel, faint sourness and a finish of lingering chocolate. YUM

Appearance: dark, nearly black color, red at the bottom, and with a pillowy, tan, 1/2" head, quite a pleasant way to cap the pint glass! Aroma: immediately apparent in the air, sweet, subtly fruity, rich and spicy, opening up more and more as we drink it in, giving off more ssociations: cherries, port wine, coffee, figs, dates, rum cake, a hint of anise, even. Prodigious mouthfeel, dark, deep, viscous, indulgent. Fullish body, long and roasty finish. Could have been more, as the texture actually thinned out some, I felt, toward the end. Still, a very, very nice little doppel.
