Aroma of grass, rich malt, dark fruits, some chocolate. Flavor might be slightly cooked which is a shame, just a touch of leather, oxidation and other off-flavors. Rich sweet toasty munich malt, molasses, grassy hops, just a bit burnt, some leather, faint berries. Plum finish with an ashy aftertaste. I’m thinking this is better fresh. Medium/full bodied, thicker water feeling, lumpy carbonation. Lubiere (4548), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 31, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours a clear chestnut brown body with a small fizzy off-white head that retained as a thin film. Nice slightly sweet smelling toasted and caramel malt nose, some coffee, light hops, and a bit of roast. Lots of coffee, nutty malt, and burnt caramel up front. Very full flavored, it’s just coats the tongue with soft maltiness making the finish last forever. Finishes with just enough hop bitterness to keep it from being too sweet. Overall, an excellent Doppelbock, probably one of my favorite American examples. Very clean. bitbucket (2034), Kirkland, Washington, USA

Pours clear dark brown with ruby highlights and a thick and creamy tan head. Sweet aroma of brown sugar, caramel, alcohol and a bit of oaky vanilla. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Maybe its the oak and alcohol influence but the taste has a bourbon-like quality to it, along with the nutty fruit and brown sugar. Floral hop finish. ditmier (1102), Boise, Idaho, USA
