Commercial Description:
Oak-aged Doppelbock is a full-bodied lager with a deep reddish-brown color. We’ve brewed it in the classic German tradition, with noble Hallertauer and Columbus hops added to Pale and Chocolate malts and a large portion of Munich malt . As a result, Detonator offers a malty aroma and palate, which is balanced by its relatively dry finish, plus the subtly melded character of the robust ales and fine Merlot which previously filled the oak. This lager is available seasonally in bottles and on draught.

Used to be able to pick this up at Tanakaya but has been absent from the cellar for quite a while. Amber in the glass, decent head. Deep malted roasted raisin flavours. Some tinge of alcohol and a few non-sweet cherry-vanilla notes surprised me. There is some complexity going on here; the balance is a little off...but it didn’t stop me from buying and enjoying it again. Very nice.

Bottle shared at tasting.
Pours a dark chocolately brown with a malty and lightly alcoholic smell. Taste is chocolate and caramel like malt. Smooth, creamy, caramel with a medium body. Decent beer.

(Bottle, thanks to hopscotch) Pours dark brown with a light brown/sand coloured head. The aroma is malty up front with a light roast that provides a milk chocolate tone but also some notes of nuts, bread and caramel/toffee. Undertones of oak/vanilla, oregano, orange peel, spicy hops, some smoke, vinous hints and a touch of dark fruits. Rather round on the nose. The flavour is chocolate, caramel, nuts, mild citrus/orange peel and some anise. Vinous with tones of vanilla/oak, grapes and black cherries. The mouthfeel is silky smooth, light sticky and light chewy. Light to medium sweet and light to medium bitter. Spicy and numbing finish with some caramel sweetness lingering. Medium bodied.

great trade extra from Stine. Pours dark brown with alot of red highlights when held up to the light. Small, tight tan head that retains well. Aroma- chocolate, dark fruits- red grape and raisin, light sherry. Taste is smooth caramel, chocolate infused with some raisin and lightly tart dark fruit, light wood, and pipe tobacco. On the dry side of the style, well attenuated but not thin bodied. Finishes dry with some lingering fruit, and tannins. Alcohol very well hidden. Thanks Eben, for this unexpected gem.

(Bottle 65 cl) Courtesy of boboski. Clear, reddish brown with a creamy, beige head. Aroma of roasted malts and rye bread. Fairly solid body with a huge base of roasted malt. The finish is dry with some bitterness. A very classical and neat Bock. 290308
