Aromas were almost quad like, or barley Wine. Dark fruit, Caramel, Touches of cherry. Flavor was coffee, more caramel, sweet fruit finish with some wood notes on the swallow. Pretty darn tasty. kujo9 (1078), North Ridgeville, Ohio, USA

Malty! Bready, toasty, and has hints of chocolate. Freshly crushed malt aroma. Clean w/ a hint of alcohol. Clean flavor... Sweet malty, lightly raisiny, bready and toasty with a semi sweet finish. Clean, malty aftertaste. Warming m/f, lighter medium carbonation, slightly biting, but smooth after it warms. Fuller body. Very nice beer! Clean, malty, and well made. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 8, 2008 12 oz bottle. Poured a clear dark brown/orange color with orange light shining through. Head was thick and light tan with good retention and lacing. Good looking beer. Attractive aroma of chocolate, nuts, and a whisper of roast. Creamy and smooth mouth feel with moderate sweetness that gives way to an almost tangy note at the end. Tasted of chocolate, subdued burned malt, fig, and a splash of alcohol. Good beer. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 31, 2007 Picked up a single 12-oz bottle at Cellar’s Wine & Spirits in St Paul, MN. Pours a semi-hazy dark brown amber brew with a thin light tan head that quickly dissipates to a fine film and spotty laced glass edge. Aroma of sweetened caramel malt, candi sugar, raisins, and some spiced herbs. Taste is medium bodied, light carbonation with flavors of sweetened caramel malt, some maple syrup, vanilla and a touch of grassy hops. Finish is smooth, creamy with a slight dry and mild bitter aftertaste. It’s a pretty decent doppelbock lager. GregClow (2499), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 30, 2007 Bottle shared with tupalev. Bottle courtesy of jerc & mabel. Deep ruby-brown colour with a small tan head. Aroma is fantastic - sweet and roasty malt and big, herbal hops. Medium bodied. Flavour follows on the aroma - delicious maltiness up front, followed by a really nice hit of hops that linger through the dry finish. Reading the other ratings below, I feel like we got an extra-hopped bottle or something, as the hops were really out in front. No complaints, though, as it made this beer stand out. Nice! tupalev (2618), Waterloo, Ontario, Canada
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Dec 30, 2007 Bottle, shared with and courtesy of GregClow. Again, another one Greg brought that I had no idea of how it was rated going in. Surprising amount of hops in aroma, lots of malt and alcohol as well - outstanding. Dark, dark brown, bubbly brown/white head. Great taste! Lots of hops, lots of malt, great tingly mouthfeel. On style, just add a ton of hops. A very very good beer - this one blew me away and is likely one of my highest ratings for the style. beermatrix (1497), Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 20, 2007 Deep, dark, nearly blackened blood black with a sliver of amber at the bottom. Great capping that lasts and lasts of densely firm, creamy lightly tanned foam. Actually, it hardly ever moved even while being consumed. Started at about a chubby finger high to reside to a pinky height always present. Tons of lacing in patchy sheeting and some densely populated spotting. Great looking Doppelbock!
Aroma is a bit soft and hesitant to let loose with any real guff of Doppelbockyness. Slight toasted breadyness, old raisins, maple, cocoa, and a peculiar dryness of smokey grasses or grains.
Taste isn’t as malty rich as I would like to see out of a Doppelbock. It starts out more like a beefy brown ale with some dryish breads and grains, cocoa as well puffs about within the mid ranges, some light vanilla, maple, and fruityness touches off the finishing back end with a partial raisin and fig ascent, but is quite short and uncomplexing.
Body is a bit short of medium with more of a drying sense of breads and grains then of rich chewy, gooey, fruity, malts. Again, seems more like a beefy brown ale.
So, even though this didn’t quite live up to what I like out of a Doppelbock, I quite liked it; if it were a brown ale(style wise and being a bit strict and beer snobby here) would be solid. Other than the style seeming off to me, I’d drink a bunch of this no problem. The numbers reflect more of how I felt with the style not matching. The label says its a Doppelbock so...reviewed as so. miketd (684), Cleveland, Ohio, USA

Mahogony in color with a small off white head. Aroma of candied sugar, roast malt, fruit and bready. Very roasty in flavor with a touch of sweetness. Medium bodied and a decent beer.
