Pours a dark chocolately brown with a malty and lightly alcoholic smell. Taste is chocolate and caramel like malt. Smooth, creamy, caramel with a medium body. Decent beer.
pantanap (677), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jul 19, 2008 12oz bottle and i forget who gave/sent this to me but thanks!.....pours a dark and opaque reddish brown with an enormous tan head that took some time to settle....aroma of toast and biscuity malt in addition to sweeter dark fruit and wood.....flavors of dark fruit, roast, and even some hop bitterness but it all seems a bit muddled together. creamy mouthfeel but still felt somewhat thin. RollinHard (502), Fort Worth, Texas, USA Jul 3, 2008 Pours a dark reddish brown with a khaki colored head that fades to a small ring fairly quick. Aroma offers quite a bit with a predominantly caramel and toasty malt, slight raspberry, pear, sherry, wood, toffee, and something unmistakably German (the yeast?). Tastes sweet and malt driven with caramel toast, coffee, fruit-filled chocolate, slight dark fruit presence and the hops add subtle (for the region) bitterness making the finish earthy and flavorful. Medium bodied, but creamy and full feeling, it’s nice to have a good beer from this brewer again as the Leviathan and Poseidon were not to my liking. I like this. waolsen (918), Littleton, Colorado, USA Jul 2, 2008 2008 bottle. Brown pour. Smell is roasted malt. Flavor is bitter and strange alcohol. Palate is average. Overall, ehh. blankboy (2487), Toronto, Ontario, Canada May 26, 2008 My bottle (22oz) shared at ’Rudolf’s May 2008 Tasting’ -- courtesy of gunhaver. Pour a very deep ruby with a large diminishing foamy tan head. Aroma’s roasty and a little smoky along with floral hops, dark fruit, a hint of chocolate and light sourness. Flavour’s malty, slightly roasty with some nuts, dark fruit and floral hops. This is oak aged done right, everything is well balanced. Dry finish. Medium bodied. A very good version of the style, I really enjoyed this.
