Fish Tale Detonator Doppelbock

Bottle pours very very dark brown/black with very little light passing through. A smell head of foam slowly fades away to a rich malty sweet nose of chocolate, biscuit, and wood. Medium rich body. Flavors follow the nose and and layer of complexity gives way to a nice dry finish. I read the description and really didn’t get any merlot notes in the nose or taste. The malty overtones must have been too much for it. Its a solid beer.

22 oz bottle purchased at Malt and Vine in Redmond, Washington. Pour is deep dark brown with a one inch tan head. Thick lacing left behind on the glass. Aroma of grassy tobacco and sweet dark fruit and roastiness. The wood is present, though subdued. Nice integrated nose. Taste is the roasty dark fruit sweetness right away, turning to the grassy hay tobacco in the finish. Palate is light medium, highish carb - making this quite easy drinking (perhaps too easy - shocked to see this is 10% per the label!). Alcohol mildly present after it had warmed. Well made and tasty, nice stuff.

22oz 񢉘) from ditmeir - thanks, Eric! Much darker pour than a lot of doppelbocks, an opaque dark brown with a fairly thick beige head. Lots of chocolate malts in the aroma add another dimension of distinctiveness, though this is balanced by dry, smoky notes and some still lively hops. Mouthfeel is nice and full, and the chocolate flavors open up into dark fruits, light wood, and some dry leafy tastes in the finish. Nice beer.

Thanks to ditmer for this one! 08 bottle. Pours a deep amber brown with medium light tan head, decent lacing. Aroma of toasted malt, caramel, slight nuts, and a bit of toffee. Flavor reveals a bit of coffee and a sweetness that I found overbearing. Alcohol is hidden very well and would have been rated a lot higher had it not been so sweet.

Holy cow is this beer incredible. At 8.5% ABV this is sure to pack a punch. Pour is deep brown rouge coloured body with a thin beige head. Aroma of chocolate malts, malts, nuttiness and maybe a hint of coffee. Taste is extraordinary with chocolate tastes and maltiness. Dry and no alcohol taste finish.

From a 22 oz bottle purchased at Paul’s in McCall, Idaho this poured at 50 degrees a very deep garnet color with a n off-white head and light lacing. Nose of ripe fruit and fermented raisins. Rich, full bodied, and creamy mouthfeel. The flavor is of plums, figs, and raisins, with some molasses. The finish is lightly bitter. This is a very nice beer.

Dark slightly hazed dark tan creamy head and lace. Light brown sugar on the nose. Semi sweet brown sugar with a very light bitter but nice.
