| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 20, 2004 Batch #3. Very nice aroma, berries, loads of sweetness, alcohol and some hops. Very dark red body, muddy, no head. Very sweet flavor, oaky, hops, very sticky and long lasting. Excellent beer! madsberg (5072), Søborg, Denmark
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 20, 2004 Bottled, Batch #3: Dusty dark amber coloured. Beige small head. The nose is delicious. Alcahol, hops, spice and berries is seducing you. This is top notch aroma. The flavour is extreme. Caramel, hops and of course the alcahol. Although the alcahol is very present its not sticky or cloying as in other high octan beers. Very balanced. Ends on a warming and nicely bitter note. Really a quality beer. Thanks Bück Dich for trading this. hopdog (5617), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Oct 10, 2004 Batch #4, 2002. Poured a dark reddish-brown color with a smaller head. Aromas and tastes of wood, wine, smoke, oak, and plums. Alcohol content well hidden. This is like no other Barley Wine I have had. Definitely a top notch beer and one never to pass up. | 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 3, 2004 The color is a murky reddish brown. A very attractive beer, especially considering that this bottle is approaching 3 years of aging. The head is off white and is long lasting and also provides a nice lace for my eyes.
Intense aroma. Grapes, plums, caramel, red wine qualities and you can definately tell this is oak aged. Wow.
Phenomenal flavor. The sip is long and dynamic but is very easy to describe. Plums and cherries first. Then the caramel and other sweet malts come out. Soon after, the cab franc flavors start to come out providing a lot of dry dark fruit flavors. Cashew flavor next. The finish is huge and is nothing but oak. Oak. Oak. Oak.
Coating texture in the mouth. The mouthfeel is delightful as well. Everything about this beer was delightful. Sickboy282 (1100), San Diego, California, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Sep 22, 2004 Pours a beautiful brownish/amber hue with only a tiny little off-white head. Aromas of dates/prunes, caramel, grain roasted malts. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a slight bitterness. Now the flavors, which is amazing by the way, are of; vanilla, slight scotch, the port aging is very noticable, very smooth and creamy....Even some chocolate/espresso, no..... light coffee flavors. mmmm.... This is quite amazing. wunderbier (1271), Tampere, Finland
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 10, 2004 750 mL bottle, snifter. Cookie, caramel, chocolate, roasted malt (H); flowers, pine and citrus hops (H); white grape, raisin, pear, cherry, port, cask wood, licorice, cola, maple syrup, and whisky aromas. Small, creamy, offf-white head sits on a murky, dark, red-brown body. Moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter flavor becomes a lightly sweet, moderately acidic, heavily bitter finish. Medium-full body, oily/sticky texture, soft carbonation, bitter, vinous aftertaste. The bottom line is: i have never tasted a barleywine like this before! Thanks for the trade SlikWily!
