JoeMcPhee (3815), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Jan 16, 2005 Just realized upon purchasing a bottle of batch 4, that this rating is for batch 5, so I’ve put it where it belongs. Garnet red colour with a huge lasting creamy pale yellow head and very sticky lace. Sweet malty aroma, orange, caramel, biscuity malt with a nice brandy like aroma. Flavour is also sweet and malty. Quite vineous. Orange and spicy malt are apparent before the bright and intense hopping starts to come out with pine, resin, and spice being noted. Very well-balanced with a long sticky finish that reminds me of brandy or sherry. As it warms there is even more maltiness, light molasses and brown sugar. Very complex and delicious, like a fine sherry. Warming ABV is noted as well. Sublime.
riversideAK (1649), Shoreline, Washington, USA Oct 10, 2008 Caramel malts, a little nutty and sweet toast too. Malty but not sweet. Some C hops in the aroma as well. Flavor is very similar, and notes actually say bland compared to all of the others I tasted. ChristianScheffel (2250), Odense, Denmark Oct 10, 2008 Slightloy hazy amber with a lasting white head. Aroma has malty caramel and citrus hops. Sweet bready malt flavour with citrus hops matching the sweetness. Very drinkable for the strength WeeHeavySD (1867), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA Sep 14, 2008 12oz relatively fresh from Holiday Wine Cellar. Pours copper orange with a tan ring. Nose is sweet and fruity and nice. Taste is a sweet and big, but it feels a bit restricted flavorwise, I’m curious how it will get as it warms up. Warmer its still one sided BMan1113VR (925), Los Angeles (and Dallas, TX), California, USA Aug 18, 2008 Bottle from November 2005. Pours with a large, creamy off-white heead covering a hazy orange body. Good lacing. Aroma has lots of malts, caramel, floral hops, and some grains. Taste is caramel malty with some burnt malts as well. A bit of sherry towards the finish and a slight alcohol burn. Not a very full mouthfeel, actually a bit thin for a barely wine. light bubbles. Not horrible, actual a solid beer, would be nice if it were cheaper, more common and came in six packs (ala SN Bigfoot). amish_caravan (212), Winona, Minnesota, USA Aug 13, 2008 nice pour. cloudy brown color. scent of hops and caramel. taste is very smooth and consists of barley and hops with a caramel finish. nice beer.
