Commercial Description:
"This classic Belgian Triple was aged in oak wine barrels for two months and then bottle conditioned. Monkfish is the color of nectar, medium bodied, with a sweet malt flavor and subtle hop aroma. Phil says it's good."

From a 750mL Bottle. Dark, cloudy, amber pour with a thin layer of white head. Barleywine-like, bourbony aromas of fig and woody spice. Some soft vanilla and caramelized sugar accompany. Very interesting aromas playing well off of each other. Full bodied, smooth mouthfeel. The belgian flavors come off storngly at first, highlighting some nice caramels and yeasty spice. Some sweet, bourbony notes follow with some figgy malty spice. Quite a unique, tasty treat.

750 ml bottle. 2003 vintage, Thanks Mike. Rich dark brown in color with a nice white head that left a nice lacing. Sweet oaky fruity aroma. Raisins and plum notes. Malty and yeasty flavor. Sweet. Dry tasting. Fulll bodied. Very good beer. Enjoyable.

750 ml bottle 2003 vintage, from Liquid Solutions. Pours a rich dark amber color with a small off-white head. Aroma is quite sweet, raisins, fruity malts, light oakiness and yeast notes. Really nice flavor, sweet, fruity, yeasty and mellow, vinuous notes from the wine barrel aging, quite dry and sweet. Full body, gentle carbonation. Really good, had I known how much I liked this, I wouldn’t have shared it (wink).

2003 bottle. Pours out a deep amber color and quite clear on the first pour, slowly hazing up on subsequent pours. Small and compact light beige head and good lacing. Very oaken and tannic aroma, slight bits of caramel also. Light carbonation. Medium bodied and quite smooth. Caramel and a sugar sweetness blend fairly nicely with the oak woodiness which is still quite present. Moderately hopped. Nicely done and seemingly has aged well.

Thanks to hopdog for this... This is the ’03 oak aged. Appears a hazy amber with a 1 finger white head and spotty lacing. Smell is of a heavy dosage of tripel yeast, bready, oak barrels, vanilla, and caramel. Taste is of caramel, vanilla, with a subtle tropical fruit salad taste. Mouthfeel is smooth with the vanilla and fruitiness coming through and resounding along the palate. Drinkability...Had this next to the ’04 standard and this was darker, richer, and more complex with the Belgian yeast coming through much better with the oak aging.

Poured a hazy amber color with a medium sized, off white head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of canilla, light oak, citrus fruits, and light butterscotch. Taste of more vanilla oak, caramel malts, spices, light alcohol, and a faint hoppiness as well.

Thanks to DarkElf for this bottle. 2003 vintage. Hazy/cloudy amber/orange color. Aromas are fruit, brown sugar/toffee/butterscotch, and yeast. Flavors are fruit, yeast, malt, grapes, and butterscotch. Very nice. Not as much wine aroma or taste as expected.

Hazy golden brown color with a medium sized white head. Toffee, oak, white grapes and yeast in the aroma. Pretty dry, some toasty oak notes, a light white grape hint. Mildly sweet yeasty finish. Very enjoyable.
