Good display of lacework. Cloudy amber color. Notes of lovely bread, caramel, grain, wood, toffee, nutty and some underlying floral notes as well. Full bodied with a soft carbonation. Moderated sweet malty base flavor with light counter bitterness. Lingering sweet bread like malty finish. Quit nice! 28-09-2007 Emil (6074), Copenhagen, Denmark

The aroma is of caramel malt, dark fruits, wood and hops, much like a Barley Wine, so is the taste, but with some alcohol. Medium to full body with a sweet dry finish. redlight (1475), Winter Park, Florida, USA

I wish we had some strong cheese and bread with this, it was still great. Raisons, dark fruits, figs and oaky tanins on the nose. Pours a reddish amber color with little head. Dark fruits, dates, figs, grapes, with some caramel malts, a very slight cidery flavor, very rich though. Excellent beer! Papsoe (14997), Frederiksberg, Denmark

Fat aroma of wood, overripe fruit and sherry. Rather full and rich body - a bit low in carbonation - lots of fruity and woody accents, overripe fruit in particular. Actually extremely complex with oxidization, sherry and noble rot. Very subdued bitterness. Very interesting. 230807 CharlesDarwin (1846), Point Judith, Rhode Island, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 27, 2007 12 Oz Bottle via footy. Unique savory nose packed with freshly trodden moss, wet mushrooms, strawberry seeds, pinyon smoke, and barbequed salmon skin. This fights an even handed battle with your typical Old Ale malt aroma, lightly of wood and sweetened with raisins and brown sugar. A heavily blush amber rushes into the glass with a sienna tinted ring around the edge. Core of carbonation. Flavor is an intense amalgam of unique flavors, rich and savory. The unique earthy qualities of the nose have been downplayed into a more refined essence with some grilled vegetables, Mediterranean herbs and light balsamic vinegar, young. The mature fruits and pale strong ale esters glow a little in the middle, before being swept away by a nicely grassy and fresh hop body, bittering on the way out in a traditional feel. Alcohols perks up the back end over a rather fluffy texture and something not fatiguing. Spicy mixed nut smack. Delicious. Further down, spritzy lemon soda and citrus arrive in the middle of the hop body. An excellent, flavorful, well rounded, nice brewed example. gunhaver (1025), Tampa, Florida, USA

Beautiful dark garnet color with a tiny bit of mouthwatering creamy head. Aroma is a tad bit muted, but I can get some raisin, caramel, and Granny Smith apple. Flavor is great: roasted chocolate, cider, barley, slight alcohol. Very easy on the palate. NickVega (73), Eugene, Oregon, USA
