Commercial Description:
Old Woody has been brewed in the style of English Old Ales. We have aged this beer in oak wine casks for six months before bottling it. Old Woody will age well for several years if stored in a cool dark cellar. Serve only lightly chilled, with a strong cheese and a hearty loaf of bread.

Bottle shared by bgburdman: Pours a nice copper color with an off white head. Aroma, grapes, oak, caramel. Flavor, caramel, some woody oak notes, earthy, fruity, some wine flavors come through. Pretty good brew.

22oz bottle; 2006 I believe. Deep amber, with a bit of an orange tint. Thick tan head. Sweet malt, oak, alcohol and some spice aroma. Complex flavor - oak is really prominant, along with tobacco, malt, hops and dried fruit. long bitter finish. really nice.

22oz bomber, no date on this one--my label says 9.5% ABV. Pours a hazy bright orange brown with a one finger light yellow beige head that fades rather quickly to a thick ring and a thin film. A nice creamy 1/2" head will rouse though. Oak and burnt toffee are the first aromas I pick up on. Cinnamon, raisins, tobacco, spicy earthy hops, and light roast are also present. Alcohol is just a bit too strong in the taste, though the oak and vanilla help mellow it out. The flavor isn’t, well, as flavorful as I’d hoped for. Tobacco, oak, and burnt toffee seem about the strongest, and I don’t really notice the cinnamon anymore. There is some slight chocolate covered cherry in there, but nothing is terribly powerful. This is the only reason a point or two got knocked off. Semidry finish with low to moderate bitterness. Lower carbonation with a medium body, fairly creamy. Good, but still a slight disappointment.

’05 bottle from boboski. Lots of honey and malt in the aroma. Hazy brown body with a thin head. Medium palate. Light malt and some bitterness up front. Some chalky flavors after that, and a slight off flavor in the finish. I just didn’t get into this very much. Not bad, but not what I had hoped for.

Alcohol and cocoa and dark fruit aroma. Bold in the mouth, and closer to a young barleywine. Satisfying though drying hardwood finish. Sent by Prersario following up my purchases in Calgary

25 oz bottle, 2002 vintage, via brewbandit. Pours a deep garnet to ruby colored body, completely clear on first pour. The head is very fine bubbled and firm, light brown, and one finger in height. The nose is very vinous, lots of malt, a little oxidation, oak, alcohol, sherry, dark fruits and a little yeast. Flavor is similarly vinous, very fruity and has lots of parallels to the deeper robust wines. Oak, wine, minimal oxidation for a 5 year old beer, sherry and port up front. Finishes with a slightly sweet tannic note. No alcohol apparency at all. Mouthfeel is full bodied with moderate very soft fizzy carbonation. A little sticky in texture, but not cloying. This beer was wonderful. Far exceeding my expectations. I’d cellar so much more beer if everything aged this gracefully.
