Commercial Description:
Old Woody has been brewed in the style of English Old Ales. We have aged this beer in oak wine casks for six months before bottling it. Old Woody will age well for several years if stored in a cool dark cellar. Serve only lightly chilled, with a strong cheese and a hearty loaf of bread.

2005 12oz. bottle - Pours a deep amber color with a nice off white head which fades to a film. Has a floral hop and roasted malt aroma. The oak comes through in the flavor also has some light esters. A smooth medium body beer. Very slight alcohol warming. A very good beer.

Pours rusted river water w/ a shallow creamy froth. Aroma is big and malty w/ citrus rind. Full nectar w/ residual effers. Flavors are big on malt w/ fresh oak, tobacco, leather, fresh cherries, and carmel with a slight sweetness. Has an asprin tingle that lingers on the finish. Great ballance and the alcohol is well hidden. Overall: complex and very tastey. Highly recommended.

22 oz bottle into an English Pint glass. 2006 vintage. Pours a light to dark amber brown. Aroma brings out a very sweet and light nose of oak, vanilla, and fruit (mainly apples). Flavor is fairly straight forward of apples, cherries, pale malt, vanilla, and a hop note. The hop note more kicks in near the finish and lingers for a couple minutes. The 9.5% ABV is not very present, although you can somewhat feel it on the tongue with the finish inside of the hop note. After a few more sips the alcohol becomes more present. Basically, I love Fish Tale, and with this they continue to prove to me their worth. I’ll definitely be aging one of these for a couple years.

Rating 1000, 4th of July 2006!. 2003 Bottle. Pours a murky, cloudy brown with a small head that fades immediately. Sweet aroma of oak, caramel-covered apples, booze and a hint of vanilla. Flavor has notes of molasses, brown sugar, toffee, caramel, wood, chocolate, cherries, dark fruit with a hint of whiskey. Light apple too. Sweet, but in a pleasant way. Has a piney hop spike in the finish. Aftertaste of tobacco lingers on the tongue and in the nose a few seconds after a sip. Considering this is 10%, has only a slight alcohol tinge. Medium bodied with a smooth texture and very subtle carbonation. Quite enjoyable. Thanks to my folks for picking this up for me while they were in Seattle last summer.

12-oz, undated. Huge thick sweet cloying waves of malt, dried fruit, raisins, and sugar off the nose. Pours deep brown with dark-tan highlights here and there; small white head that recedes to film. Essentially laceless, given a minute to settle (very slippery bubbles). Big sharp sweet caramel attack with a nutty, bready mid-palate. The finish is long, hot, dry, and lightly bitter. Sweet prune aftertaste. Lightly bubbly body, thick and slippery and heavy with malt sugars. Huge, complex, and satisfying. Really sits you down in your chair.

Bottled. Pours a coppery dark amber with a lacy yellow-white head that almost behaves like a nitro pour. Plenty of aroma with wood, molasses, flowery hops, pine and peat. Full creamy body with light carbonation. The taste taste is malty sweet and rich with molasses, cherry, toffee, prunes and a bitter/spicy/oaky finish. Feels nicely warm on the way down. Wow!

Poured an amber brown color with a thin head and very light lacing. Aroma was dark fruits, brown sugar, caramel, and peat. The flavor followed suit with some coffee and chocolate mixed in and oak and hot alcohol in the finish. Mouthfeel was plentiful for the style, decent showing of carbonation.

2002 vintage 750 ml bottle via the very generous alanc - Thanks Alan! - I drank this one to celebrate my 13th wedding anniversary.. Seemed appropriate! - Pours a murky brown with ruby highlights and a tall creamy beige head. Aroma of caramel, molasses, roasted malts, oak, a little smoke, and a touch of chocolate. Flavor is delightfully smoky with roasted malts, caramel, chocolate, a touch of molasses, and a touch of toffee and vanilla. Silky smooth on the palate without even a trace of the 10% alcohol. This one is creamy in the mouth and buttery smooth. 5 years in the bottle certainly didn’t hurt this one. Just like the tall tree on the label I’m sure this brew got better with age... Fantastic!
