Commercial Description:
Old Woody has been brewed in the style of English Old Ales. We have aged this beer in oak wine casks for six months before bottling it. Old Woody will age well for several years if stored in a cool dark cellar. Serve only lightly chilled, with a strong cheese and a hearty loaf of bread.

vintage 2005 brown color w/ a thin off white head. Smells of sweet toffee and hints of wine and alcohol. Palate is fairly full and lightly creamy. Flavor is a buttery toffee flavor a dry weak chocolate bitter and a nice alcohol finish. I’d like to try a few year old bottle of this.

Enjoyed while watching college football, 2005 12 oz. bottle purchased in Wisconsin. Poured a deep but clear brown with no head. The aroma was quite inviting with deep matly sweetness, hints of caramel and chocolate are also present with a trace of alcohol. Very creamy mouth feel with a medium body. Caramel and lightly toasted malt starts the taste off. Seems basic at first but it opens up as you are ending the taste and heading for after taste. Much more complex at the finish. Alcohol, deeper chocolate, toasted malt, pine-ish hops and dark chocolate bitterness. The finish is where it’s at. Bet this ages well.

2005 12oz. bottle. Burgundy pour full of well-suspended tiny floaties. Wonderful aroma picked up some red wine, oak accents, and sweet caramel. Flavor was also complex and tasty.. with the aroma coming through.. along with some breadiness and some campfire smoke on the finish. Lighter on the palate than I had expected, but managed to hit the taste buds well and had a nice light hoppy bitterness to blend with the oak, smoke, and caramel on the finish. Excellent brew all around!

2005 bottle at the Middle of Nowhere Party, 9/05. We enjoyed this as the "New Knoxville Town Players" presented their "interpretation" of The Wizard of Oz! Dark reddish brown ("can we have the house lights on please, so we can evaluate the appearance"). Surprisingly mellow for being somewhat fresh. Thick sweet malts, hints of caramel, just enough hop in the finish. Delicious stuff. "How do you like fire, Scarecrow!?!?!?!!?"

2003 edition, 12 oz bottle. Deep garnet colour, thin head. Sweet malty aroma, toasted nuts, caramel, molasses, toffee, dark fruit (plum and cherry). Seems more barley wine than old ale. Flavour is sweet, molasses, chewy malts, some earthiness and woodiness balanced by a nice earthy bitterness. Slightly toasty finish with a nice warming feeling. Awesome stuff.

OK, first of all, who thought up this name? ’nuff said. kind of a see-thru brown with a fast fading head. even though this is classified as an old ale, it has quite a few barleywine qualities. and actually the more I drink it, the more I like it. yeah, it has my seal of approval. thanks Eric.

Pours dark amber/medium brown. White film for head. Aroma is very doppel-like. Caramel, toffee, mollasses. Initial flavor is all caramel malt, with the faintest hop bitterness through the middle. Lots of smoky/campfire wood in the finish. Little put off by the smoke character, but all in all, decent brew.
