Commercial Description:
Old Woody has been brewed in the style of English Old Ales. We have aged this beer in oak wine casks for six months before bottling it. Old Woody will age well for several years if stored in a cool dark cellar. Serve only lightly chilled, with a strong cheese and a hearty loaf of bread.

This one pours a hazy dark brown with a sizeable, creamy off-white/cream head. The aroma is fairly vinous and creates an almost whiskey-like aroma from the malt and alcohol. The barleywine like fruitiness also adds to the impression of strength, without any actual alcohol flavors. The wine in the flavor is actually a little off-putting to me, but it’s a complex beer that deserves a try.

2003 12 oz bottle. Sexy rummy whiskeyish aroma. Dark fruit. Initial impression on the tongue is of smoke. Rich and thick and malty. Good wood character. Quite nice.

Thanks to Springslicker for sharing this one. Reddish brown, with slight head. Musty, fruity winey aroma, with a whiff of tobacco. Port and earthy hops, nicely bitter. Unique flavors of walnuts, maybe even mushroom, and smoke. Nice brew!

Thanks to Bück Dich for sending this one! Old woody was preceded by some big powerful beers during our mini-tasting and still it held it’s own, in part to having a very similar flavor and aroma profile. Brown color with a smallish head as is characteristic on many high alcohol beers. Complex aroma with some caramel, cherry and toffee. The sweetness is well balanced with an earthy hop character that puts it all together. Old Ale or Barleywine? This one travels back and forth across these two style categories.

Poured a murky dark reddish brown with a very small off-white head. Strong sweet malty aroma. Taste is very, very sweet with only a mild roasty hop kick in the finish, with some alcohol character. Full mouthfeel. A flavorful and unique sipping beer.

2003 bottle shared with my brother DYCSoccer17, Garnet pour with little head. Malts! Brown sugar malty aroma. Initial sweetness, then alcohol warmth, then roasty maltiness. A little too boozy for my liking.

2002 750ml - Fish Brewing has a unique flavor that’s hard for me to get used to .... not bad, but not something that I crave either. Took nearly half the bottle for me to statr appreciating this to a higher degree. Enjoyable, but unless my pallet has a major alteration, this will never be a fave.

pours a dark brown color with a medium almost tan head. aroma is really strong, vinious and complex bourbon as well. flavor is dark fruit with some hop notes as well. oak and vanilla with some vegetable dirt in there. Palate is really nice with the alcohol well masked.
