Commercial Description:
Named for the majestic creatures which embody the proud spirit of the Republic of Cascadia, Wild Salmon Pale Ale is a light bodied and beautifully balanced Northwest-style pale ale. Its gentle sweetness, drawn from Pale, Carastan, Vienna, Cara-pils, and Honey malts is nicely matched by Chinook hops and late additions of Cascade and Willamette hops. Northwest Pale Ale enthusiasts will love this beer as much as they love the beautiful region which has inspired it. In firm commitment to our love of the Great Northwest, the people at Fish Tale Ales are donating a portion of the proceeds from sales of each case and each keg of Wild Salmon Pale Ale to the Save Our Wild Salmon Coalition, helping to rebuild healthy runs of wild Pacific salmon and steelhead. On draught or by the bottle, this treat from Fish Tale Ales is remarkably bright with a brilliant golden color and thick creamy head. Wild Salmon Pale Ale is sparkling and crisp with a fresh hop aroma and refreshing finish.

Bottle poured a bright copper amber with a decent white head and lacing. Aroma and flavor of pine and citrus with a bit of bland smoke at finish. Not bad.

Huge pinkish-yellow dense head; again pinkish (must be suggestion by the name) hued amber, clear beer. Bit grainy, dusty, and greenery nose (stinging nettles), green wood. Dull malty taste, not even sweet, neutral, utterly boring. Light to medium bodied. Leaves a metallic, yet sweetish aftertaste. Do they really want to prove that organic equals tasteless, yes?

Bottle, Kona, Hawaii, Dec 2005. Head is initially average sized, frothy, off-white, mostly diminishing. Body is light amber. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted bread), moderately hoppy (flowers, orange, apricot), with a note of peach. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, velvety texture, lively carbonation. Quite nice, surprisingly; good blend of mild fruity hops and sweet toasty malt. I liked the organic amber ale better, but I expected lotsa west coast hop stink and instead got a pleasant, balanced beer.

Bottle. Aroma was little grainy and bitter. Light copper body with thin white head. Mainly for flavor was hop bitterness that wasn’t any better than swill beer. But there was also some burnt fire wood flavor present also. Somewhat left a toasted aftertaste on palate.

Pours a clear copper bronze with a thin wispy white head. Sweaty hoppy aroma has some spruce and earthy hop presence with a touch of pale malts. The choice of aroma hops is not very enticing. Body starts with a nice mild Vienna malty sweetness revealing some floral hoppy qualities before a dry, musty, earthy bittering hop finsh. Just not crisp, clean and flavorful like I prefer in an APA.

Smells of sour berries. Looks like a highly filtered light amber beer with a medum head. Tastes like smoke and white grapes- that’s not a bad thing! Yum! Leaves an artificial taste on the palate, but good artificial. Like the gum that used to come with baseball cards. A very good organic pale!!!

This beer is a brilliantly clear, amber-copper color and is topped by a frothy, one-finger thick, off-white colored head, which dissapears to a wispy ring of a head fairly quickly. The aroma is a mix of light hop and malt notes, quite appropriate actually. I get notes of caramalized malt, a grapefruit-like citrus character, some orange contributions and some sweet & toasty grain notes.

The taste is lightly sweet up front, with a solid malt character consisting of a light toffee note and a bit of dry, toasted grain notes. There is a citrusy hop character here as well, which reminds me of oranges and some grapefruit. There is this really weird phenolic note in the finish, it is quite noticeable and almost seems a bit like burnt plastic. It couples with a light astringent bitterness, which otherwise would be quite appropriate, but here just makes things worse. This is not horrible, just that the finish is quite off-putting. Otherwise it is a nice mix of hop and malt notes, and would be a quaffable Pale Ale.

Rerated on tap at the brewpub. Light golden. Great summer ale...light and crisp. Good hops at the end. Nice sweetness and lots of grain flavor up front.
