Commercial Description:
Named for the majestic creatures which embody the proud spirit of the Republic of Cascadia, Wild Salmon Pale Ale is a light bodied and beautifully balanced Northwest-style pale ale. Its gentle sweetness, drawn from Pale, Carastan, Vienna, Cara-pils, and Honey malts is nicely matched by Chinook hops and late additions of Cascade and Willamette hops. Northwest Pale Ale enthusiasts will love this beer as much as they love the beautiful region which has inspired it. In firm commitment to our love of the Great Northwest, the people at Fish Tale Ales are donating a portion of the proceeds from sales of each case and each keg of Wild Salmon Pale Ale to the Save Our Wild Salmon Coalition, helping to rebuild healthy runs of wild Pacific salmon and steelhead. On draught or by the bottle, this treat from Fish Tale Ales is remarkably bright with a brilliant golden color and thick creamy head. Wild Salmon Pale Ale is sparkling and crisp with a fresh hop aroma and refreshing finish.

This one comes my way via Bück Dich. The pour is a clear amber under a frothy white head. Malt and fruit in the aroma. The flavor is sweet but lacks a good crisp hop presence. More like an Amber Ale. Mostly and average brew.

Pours a clear orange, small ring of white head. Aroma of sweet malt, a little sour apple. Flavor is crisp, malty with a hop bite to it. Decent brew.

Bottle Pours a slightly cloudy, pale yellow/amber with a full white head that disolves into a thin haze. Lacing is fine and even. Aroma is mostly bread and slightly sweet dough. Faint hops. Flavors are a bit more hoppy, but lightly toased grain, bread and slight lemony taste. Feel is very smooth and soft, carbonation is very mild and the aftertaste is a hay and hops bitter.

Light golden brown with a small white head. Fruity hop aroma with some subtle toasted malt. Crisp and fruity hoppy flavor. Some notes of grapefruit and peach. Some light malts peak through to balance things out. Nothing wrong with this one, just unremarkable.

My experience with another Fish Tale Organic was rather pleasant, and I had high hopes for this one as well.... Clear, light amber hue, with a an ample, white head, that drifts swiftly down to size. Aroma is on the quiet side, to be polite. Alert, awake, fresh, even zesty, but possessing no particular flavorful sensations, nothing I like to detect in an ale, no matter how pale. As time goes on, the nose grows particularly more bitter, and there’s an increasing fruitiness flowering, but only a bit. Once over the lips and on the tongue, disappointment prevails. Very simple, with a some hop presence, but remarkably mild at that, and very scant malt, if any. That hoppiness rides meekly through the finish and it’s appreciated well enough, but it’s a far cry from what I want. Light body, slight texture, feeling more like a faint, inoffensive ESB than a fruity, hoppy pale ale. I’m not going to quibble over stylistic designations any longer, just end on the note that it moved me not.

Cloudy, dark yellow appearance, light white head. Fresh, floral aroma. Odd, slight band-aid taste to it. Some underlying citrusy notes to it to redeem it. Mouthfeel is decent enough. Perhaps the "organic" nature of this is what makes this somewhat unpalatable, but this is not one of Fish’s more stellar offerings.

Dark golden to amber color. Small off white lid of bubbles. Dry woody malt, hopsack and light peat aromas. I really like the malt flavors in this one. Has a mild highland malt/peat character. Dry hopsack flavors. Touch of dry buckwheat honey in the finish.
