daknole (2800), Plantation, Florida, USA Aug 17, 2009 Bottle shared at JW77’s. I really like the Fish Tale BA beers. This one is black with a brown head. Aroma is chocolate, grapes, cherries and some woody notes. Flavor is like chocolate covered wood aged cherries. The wine does wonderful things with this beer! Rustyham (545), miami, Florida, USA Aug 9, 2009 Sweet, Light, crisp, with some fruitiness. More womanly than most Imp stouts- thus, I loved it. Bottle thanks to Daknole masonjer (555), Holt, Michigan, USA Apr 27, 2009 Big thanks to Holdenn for breaking this out (and for saving some for me!) Pours pitch black with a dark tan head. Aroma is dark red fruit, chocolate, and tart cherries. Taste is much the same, big and rich, it feels like I pairing red wine and chocolate. It has a great dry finish, which helped balance some of the sweetness in the middle. I am a sucker for good wine barrel aging, and I think they pulled it off. There is no lack of deep red grapes in this one, but I enjoyed it. neepsntatties (280), Portland, Oregon, USA Apr 13, 2009 Had the pleasure of sampling a 2000 of this stout this weekend. Colour... nearly black with only a wisp of head. Nose... dark sweet chocolate, chocolate cherries and light hops. Palate... very creamy mouthfeel with plenty of dark chocolate, Bing cherries, cocoa, roasted malt, hints of black coffee. Cellaring has treated this stout very well! pantanap (1322), Chicago, Illinois, USA Mar 15, 2009 Updated: Apr 29, 20091.5 litre bottle brought to me by zathrus. i’ve been saving up for this one for a long time and low and behold the most deserving timeframe would be my 1000th. perhaps a bit too late i’m afraid...
aroma of tart cherry red fruit, chocolate, and a bunch of soy that surfaces as the beer warms which is unfortunate.
flavors of tart cherry, chocolate, and a lot of papery oxidized malt. a lot of winey red fruit flavor and soy sauce. smooth and creamy mouthfeel. if it wasn’t for the oxidation and overly winey characteristics, it could have been a lot better. i can see how some would enjoy this though.

I was able to get another crack at this one again thanks to Matt. Same vintage 750ml bottle. Not as oxidized but there were signs that it may be starting to turn. red fruit and dusty chocolate in the nose. flavor had more of a stout profile and less wine and def. less oxidized. a step or two above the bottle that i had for sure. lovely smooth mouthfeel. riversideAK (2648), Shoreline, Washington, USA Feb 12, 2009 Pretty much black with a nice tan head. The nose is very nice, a touch of aging is noted with aromas of roast, coffee, chocolate, and some over ripe dark fruits. Initial flavors are a little tart with nice oak notes, coffee, roast, and some underlying sweetness. All this time might have thinned it out a bit too, but all in all this is very tasty. railcat1 (578), Orlando, Florida, USA Jan 7, 2009 Bottle aged very well this was great and better then the original as the barrel aged made it more smoother, with hints of smoke and malts and tasted sorta like a stone RIS .poured a nice dark black and had a nice hop taste to it still.CHEERS!
dalekliz (546), San Diego, California, USA Jan 4, 2009 2002 bottle - batch 4, sampled at WeeHeavySDs 2000th rating party, thanks Jon! Pours a deep black with a nice tan head. Sharp aroma, of toasted malt, molasses, brown sugar, under-ripe fruit, chocolate, coffee, and alcohol. Taste is sharp and sour, of malt, under-ripe fruit, cocoa, molasses, bourbon, wood, and sugar. Lingering sharpness. Different and very tasty.
