Batch #4. Bottle shared at Oktoberfest at Dickinsonbeer’s. Poured thick black with a brown head. Vinous sour chocolate aroma. Flavor is intensely roasty and chocoaltey with a vinous cherry kick. Pretty sweet. Very nice stout.

Bottle from acertain; nose of dark fruit and a wine barrel odor; smelled more of a barlewine than an Imperial Stout; Opaque ebony with a medium tan head; a lot more head than is commom for a barrel-aged stout. Flavor was only some friutiness; it had none of the coffee, chocolate, or complexity i expect from an Imp stout.

(MANY THANKS TO IRISHBOY FOR SHARING THIS)poured as black as a moonless halloween night with a thick dark brown head.the aroma was a blend of dark fruit, coffee, chocolate, oak, and a bit of a cabernet like wine.the flavor mixed up what was in the aroma, plus some grapefruit, and calky type cocoa.honestly the wine and grapefruit flavor did not blend well with the characteristics of an imperial stout.they were just to overpowering.i think whiskey,or even fresh oak barrels would have been better.

Bottle: Columbus tasting shared by OhioDad! Thick black pour with a tan head. Aroma of chocolate, dark fruits, and lots of roasted malt. Flavor of chocolate, a hint of coffee, some oak, dark fruits. Thought I caught a bit of oxidation at the end, but this is aging very well.

750ml bottle received via trade with the very generous alanc! - Thanks! - Pours black with a nice milkshake like tan head that stays pretty well and laces some. Good chocolate and dark fruit aroma with not much oxidation at all for the age of this. A touch of oak there too. Flavor is good chocolate and dark fruits as well but some oak found underneath and some roasted and burnt malts. Palate is very smooth and creamy but you are left wtih quite a dry finish. Pretty amazing brew overall and I’m glad I was able to share it with some new friends.

Poured opaque black with a small brown head. Big chocolate and dark fruit aroma. Full and sweet with a good balance by roasted malt and some aged notes. Vinous notes come through just enough. The flavor starts off vinous, like a nice red wine. Chocolate backbone makes it very tasty. Medium to full bodied.

KP’s Fest. Forgot who brought this? Pours a nice deep black with a small lasting deep tan head. Aroma is Lots of raosted malts, coffee, nutty, chocolate malts, harsh burnt malts mixed with light hoppiness. Flavor is dry burnt malts, coffee, sweet middle, dry burnt malt and bitter finish. Chocolate- nutty flavors along with some nice roasted malts, oak, and red wine. Finishes off a bit tart and tannin-like from the cab barrels. Overall, very complex and drinkable Impy stout.

I was amazed on my short trip to Seattle that the Stumbling Monk happened to have a few bottles of this and they even let me carry one out. 2002 batch. 750 ml bottle pours black with the slightest red tint and dark tan head that fades to a ring quickly. The nose is strongly of merlot wine, cherries, and a bit of chocolate. Medium mouthfeel and lightly carbonated. The flavors are oh soo smooth: the wine flavor is blended so well with oak, chocolate, roasted flavors, vanilla and dark malts. The alcohol is surprisingly, almost undetectable. It leaves a light coating in your mouth that isn’t syrupy but smooth, creamy, sweet, and wonderful. 9/5/9/5/19 = 4.7

On rerates I’m going to have to move this down from my top spot. It hasn’t aged gracefully and the oxidation has taken over the smooth notes. 3.6

750 ml bottle from ’02. Thanks to a trade with everafter. Pours a dark black with a beige creamy head. Rich chocolate raisins, sweet fruits, caramel, roasted malts, and slightly ashy aroms. Chocolate and wine flavors with many of the above nuances balance really well. I’m glad to see this one is still in good shape. Definitely past its prime stage, but still an excellent beer. 8/5/9/4/17 = 4.3
