| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 17, 2004 Bottled: Pitch black coloured. LIght chocolate brown huge head. Coffee and light roasty aroma. Is quite sweet and has a sour note. Flavour is sweet, spiced and has roasted coffee notes. Sweet and malty in the end. This is a decent imp. stout, but compared to some of the others american highprofiled imp. stout I’ve come accross, it falls a little short. Anyway many thanks to Bück Dich for spreading the love. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Nov 4, 2004 Pours a dark brown, with boubbly light brown head. Aroma is of alcohol, wine, and choclate. Flavor is full of alcohol, choclate and roast malts. Very sweet for the style. Thin on the palate. Ending is fruity and bitter. Similar to a wetter wine. A very nice beer. Thanks to Frielock for this tasty brew! jgb9348 (2515), Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Oct 28, 2004 Batch #3 (November 2001) Pitch black, opaque body with a super dense, long-lived brown head. Aroma of coffee, roasted malt, cherries, caramel, nuts and some toffee. Medium-bodied; Smokey, roasted malt flavour with some of the sweetness noticeable. More complex & stoutie (not imperial) than the just sampled DFH 21% WWS. Aftertaste is roasty and spicey, but good and complex-a true Imperial stout in this respect. Overall, a nice beer-great roasted & sweet characteristics withi pure complexity of an IS! Thanks so much to Phil for picking this up on his venture out to the depression capital of the world. A great treat and worthy of being called a ’top tier IS’. I sampled this 750 mL bottle purchased at BottleWorks in Seattle, Washington on 05-September-2004. jeffin7 (610), Silver Spring, Maryland, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 14, 2004 01 vintage. Small brown head, good retention. Opaque, black brew. Roasty, sweet malt nose. Full body, creamy mouthfeel. Roasty, chocolate flavors with vinous and java notes in the background. A touch of vanilla hidden in there also.An almost dry finish, light whiskey notes. Better than expected. Crosling (1856), Loveland, Colorado, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 3, 2004 Pours brown from the bottle but looks black in the glass. The head is creamy and thin and leaves some lacing.
The nose is very nice but only if you know what you are smelling. Molasses and chocolate with a sharp astringent burnt grape and cherry character. The oak fairs well in the aroma as well and the barrels also gave the aroma some sherry characteristics.
I don’t really like the flavor. The bordeaux barrel aging did nothing for this beer but eliminate all of the traditional imperial stout flavors. No chocolate, no coffee, no roastiness but a shitload of sweet molasses. However, this is still pretty damn good. The burnt dark fruit flavors take over...everything in this beer is wine, wine, wine and more fucking wine. Which was enjoyable at times but not at others. One thing I didn’t get that I was certainly hoping for was hints of the oak aging asI didn’t get much.
