Aroma is very nice, sweet, almost syrupy, molassas, coffee, grapes, dark pitted fruit and slight alcohol. Flavor is a strong, mostly coffee and smoke, fairly bitter hopps and charcoal or soot. Quite strong actually, even a bit harsh I would say. Rubust, full, heavy and a feel that is not as thick as I expected. Trailer is a fairly faint smokey flavor. It looked and smelled delicious, and went slightly downhill from there. My high hopes were nearly met. I’ve got another ’01 and an ’02 that I’ll cellar a while and try again.

Dark chocolate aroma, with some roasted malt and a hint of coffee. Nice alcohol presence. Somewhat of an oak taste, but nothing too significant. Nice roastest coffee, chocolate taste. A decent beer from Fish Brewing! shadey (1501), Rochester, New York, USA

Sour and Bitter fruit aroma and flavor with hints of dark chocolate. Decent alcohol heat and plenty of wine resembalance. A good sipping stout that would have been better in the cold of winter than in the 90 degree heat of an august night.
Re-Rate Batch #4 2002- 750ml. More chocolate this time and less alcohol in the flavor. Drinking this in the right conditions made a big difference. The fruit was still there with a constant presence of bitter dark chocolate. Good Stuff. Terminus (1955), Las Cruces, New Mexico, USA

The oak aging on this one definately took away from the coffee/roasted aromas i was expecting. Where to start here with the flavors-oak, fermented cherries, coffee, dark fruit, blackberry as Phillybeer said. The oak aging makes this one the counterpart to the leviathan. Another interesting and experimental beer!
2001 bottle-I liked this one a little better than the 2002 i had. the vineous qualities are there, but not as astringent as the 02. a more round body also. OldGrowth (1433), North Carolina, USA

Reddish balck color. No light goes through. Bitter flavors, red wine/grapefruit/choc/plum/ raisin. Slippery creammy mouthfeel. Maybe a tad thin. Dry bittersweet finish. Very good, still might need some time IMO. Thank You slikwily ClarkVV (3578), Allston, Massachusetts, USA

Tremendously excited to try this one and boy did I love it. Pours a dark cherry-brown, with some darker blacks throughout. Bottle conditioned with a perfect creamy tan head. Smells divine: Lightly sour red wine aromas mix with pure chocolate goodness. Plenty of rich caramel, soft hops and light wood/earthen aromas. Flavor is a wonderfully integrated mix of tannin-filled vinous notes and dark chocolate/barley notes. I was curious to see how the wine would play with an imperial stout, and I just couldnt get enough. This one seems more of a chocolate imperial, which is a great change up for me lately. No hugely unbalanced biterness, though the hops are evident. Quite pungent I will admit, from the wine, but I love sour beers, and you can’t fault them for making this one sour, as I’m sure they intended the tannins be tasted in this. Palate is smooth, velvety, maybe lightly oily, with a lightly bitter, resinous finish. Creamy through the middle and just very full and unrelenting. I loved it and it well deserves it’s spot in the top 50. PhillyBeer2112 (2089), Orange Park, Florida, USA

Aroma of roast, acrid, licorice, wood, balsamic vinegar, sherry notes. Extra pungent flavor, raisins/plums, cardboard ala sherry, roast, oak. Sharp almost acidic finish. A real challenge to the palate, heavy pungent in flavor. Acrid pungency is a bit much, detracts a little from drinkability. 21iceman40 (1731), vienna, West Virginia, USA
