| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 6, 2004 Wow, I really forgot to put this rating in? What is the deal with that? Thanks go out to brooklynboy for sharing this hard to find brew in central illinois. Dark with a thin quickly discipating tan head. The nose is malty and chocolaty. The taste is sweet and malty. Pretty good but just not fantastick. duff (5475), Surrey, Greater London, England
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 22, 2004 Bottle-2002 vintage. Super thick deep, deep brown colour, looks very menacing in the glass. Aroma was a little unexpected, distinct lack of roasty malt. Nose is still very intense. Vegemite and soy came to mind straight away. Palate is heavy, sweet, than quickly acidic and bitter. Almost a bit tart aswell, heavy vegemity/soy flavour and burnt (not roasty), some woody/leafy flavours, with only hints of dark chocolate and mocha/roast. A little sharp in flavour and lacking in depth. Would probably benefit from another couple of years in the cellar, even though it was already 2 years old. Needs to soften a little. | 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jun 6, 2004 NUMBER 100: Deep dark brown. Many aromas pour out of this beer. Where to begin. First, this had a thick tan colored head. A thick aroma of wine flavors. Grapes. Spices were very heavy. Can tell the age from this beer. First impression from the taste was grapes. Very wine like brew. Tangy, slight bitter front. Coffee was really present in this beer. Very delicious! Thanks to Büch Dich and Sham for picking this one out for my 100th beer rating.

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 3, 2004 Batch numero quatro. Very dark brown body with a dark tan head. Sandy lacing from the thin sheet of bubbles covering the surface. Aroma has white chocolate with coconut and brandy. Chocolate malt, grapefruity Cascade hops, and dry grapes comprise the flavor. There’s a lack of coffee bitterness which I’m accustomed to in imperial stouts. Slightly dry, astringent finishing mouthfeel. The intense fruitiness makes for a slow-drinking beer. That’s not to say it’s difficult or unenjoyable to drink, the flavors are just very intense. It’s like there’s this thick layer of sweet chocolate malt with two other flavors (hops and tart wine)underneath. You can taste the other two, but they’re always masked by the sweet malt. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 2, 2004 Batch #4, Nov. 2002 bottling. Thick and creamy brown head, dark brown body (used motor oil). Good lacing and it stains the glass as it drips. Aroma is thick and vinous and has roasted cherry, chocolate, some kind of dry clay type of thing, pineapple, and coffee. Taste is also thick... sort of a cherry sweetened grapefruit hop, brown sugar, chocolate, pineapple, smokey meat, and sour wine. Finishes a little bitter with coffee. Overall, I agree it is a little too vinous, but it is still very good. frylock (1024), Buffalo, New York, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jun 1, 2004 Batch No.4, bottled Nov. 2002. Chocolate, molasses, oaky, vinous aroma. Black body with a small tan head. Tart red wine bite, leads into some cocoa and some dry and bitter roasted barley flavors. Some warmth in the finish. Very flavorful, but too heavy on the vinous notes. None the less a nice beer to celebrate my arrival to Oregon HumuloneRed (750), Portland, Oregon, USA
