| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 24, 2003 Black. Big nose - roasty, woody, burnt fruits. Lots of roast, smooth malts. Good stout, but not living up to the hype IMO (and Radek's). argo0 (6998), Washington DC, USA

Aroma is mild sweet, some wood, vinous, some chocolate, light vinegar. Taste is mild sweet, vinous, cherry, chocolate. Medium-full body. Good beer, but not a Top 50 in my bood -- I like my cask-aged beers to demonstrate more characteristics of the underlying beer -- this one has too much wine and too little imperial stout. hopdog (5617), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 30, 2004 Batch #4 bottled on November 2002. Poured with a large, thick brown head. With the strong wine smell, you can definitely tell this was aged in Wine casks. Other aromas; roasted, coffee, sweet and woody. Strong wine flavor with subtle hints of coffee and molasses. Different tasting Imperial Stout. Rastacouere (5564), Montréal, Quebec, Canada
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 28, 2004 Black, opaque, reddish hints. Low light brown head. Extremely vinous aroma among explosive red wine character. Complex fruitiness (blackberries, berries, grapes) expressed over a leafy/branches tray. Bourbon undertones peaking through a toasted pumpernickel bread and blueberry jam breakfast. This smells terrific. But, upon tasting, I don’t know how well the barrel blends with the beer itself. I get more and more envy to try the base beer as this one may be a bit overly sweet, vinous and balsamic tart, almost like a red wine. This may be a bit too much combined with the roastiness, tobacco and herbal finish. Acidity just doesn’t mix very well in the end. Rather high carbonation, liquorous mouthfeel, medium body. Still very good and challenging. Thanks Sham! hopscotch (5543), Vero Beach, Florida, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 28, 2003 This beer rocks!
It pours black and dense... Dark Lord dense!! Black Hole dense!!! Huge, light brown frothy head. Mostly lasting. No light, no matter how bright, could pass through this stout.
The aroma is different and complex. Oak-aged tawny port, Cabernet, licorice, must, earth and very light notes of evergreen. Surprisingly, I detected no chocolate or coffee in this dark wonder.
Flavors of burnt leaves, alcohol and tawny port. Liquid Autumn, basically.
Full-bodied with a syrupy mouthfeel and lively carbonation. Long, dry, very tangy finish. This is the most unusual and one of the more delightful imperial stouts I have tasted to date. Thumbs up! Thanks go out to hopsrus for this brew.
