The Dan Journal #154. Tasted 1/25/08. 22oz bomber. Opaque brown hue. Creamy head. Chocolate yet mild nose. Medium bodied with a big effervescence and bitterness. Woody chocolate malts. Coffee and astringent. Brownie flavor. Mild citrus hops. Touch burnt malt flavor. Moderate Imperial!

Pitch black with a nice, creamy head. The aroma has light notes of smoke, roasted malt and licorice. The flavour also has hints of smoke, notes of roasted malt, licorice, dark fruit and chocolate and the finish is slightly dry. The body is full and nice and the balance is very nice! Thank you Tom/After4ever for this nice one!

I can’t tell on this bottle what year it is. Dark beer in my snifter with only a faint whisp of tiny brown foam. Roasted grain, coffee, and dusty chocolate nose. Flavors of roasted coffee, bitter chocolate, tobacco, molassess, and a finish like good cigar smoke and espresso. Oily mouthfeel like you want in an impy stout. This is a solid beer that I wish I could get regularly.

(22 oz. bottle (8% ABV) via trade with <A HREF=http://www.ratebeer.com/ViewUser.asp?UserID=3 target=blank>TheCheeseMan, thanks Daniel!) Decent but not overwhelming...Pours very dark brown, close to opaque, with a little less than a finger of tan head that recedes to a light thin layer. Aroma of chocolate, raisins, molasses, coffee and perhaps port. Mouthfeel is medium-full but actually a bit on the looser, thinner side for an Imp Stout. Very light chalkiness on palate. Thin, weepy, broken rings of lacing. Flavor is predominantly chocolate, perhaps coffee with light presence of dark fruits and/or very light port. A bit grassy in finish. Actually is kind of weak in the complexity aspect for the style. A nice beer but just kind of passable as an IS.

Outstanding, thick dark body with a huge brown head that lasts most the drink. Chocolate on the nose with some wood and flower. Tart dark malt base with espresso bean notes and a grasy tang finish. Meduim bitter chocolate with a nicely paired mild vanilla. Very well done, great drink.

1-6-08 bottle shared at tasting.
Black color with decent swirled tan-white head. Smells sweet and is almost even a bit fruity as well. Very average to me overall - nothing too special or notable about this one. Palate is nearly thin and watery. Just average.

Sampled at an Imperial stout tasting, and while this wasn’t bad, it definitely didn’t stand out. Black pour with a thin beige head. Roasty flavor with a hint of a stale-ish cardboard flavor. Average body, and not too thin, at least. Roasty but mildly so for the style, I thought. Decent beer overall, but not stacked against the best Imperial Stouts.

Picked up a single 12-oz bottle from Cellar’s Wine & Spirits in St Paul, MN. Pours a clear dark cola brown brew with a fast dissolving tan head that quickly dissipates to a fine film and tan ring. Aroma of roasted dark malt, some flowery hops, a touch of chocolate and coffee. Taste is medium to full bodied, light carbonated with flavors of dark malt, Baker’s chocolate, some coffee and a touch of soy sauce. Finish is slightly bitter, and a chocolate and vanilla aftertaste that quickly disappears.
