11/28/07. 12oz bottle, Batch 5 bottled Nov. 04, listed at 10%abv. this bottle was aged for 3 years. pours black with practically no head. nose of dark chocolate, espresso, and nutty. flavor has lots of dark choocolate, slick espresso without the bitterness, and finishes pretty nutty. a really nice flavor but it isn’t very complex. the body is pretty watery too. no alcohol is felt at all. pretty tasty stuff, a bit straightforward, and nothing special.

Sampled during Manhattan Blind IS Tasting: Had some bitterness more than others. Overall nice and had nice mouthfeel and aroma. Aroma better than taste for me.

Bomber via boboski - thanks, Jason! 2006 vintage. Sweet, rich, malty aroma with salty chocolate and anise, strong, beany roast, deep-set fruit and (too) strong alcohol. Pitch black with an up-lacing, creamy light brown head. Strongly roasty, alcoholic taste with deep, dark chocolate, some anise, and a great roasty dryness that lasts long into the aftertaste. Big and chunky and flavorful, not too aggressive or hoppy, but drenched in heft from the booze (8% seems low). Has a lot in common with the Yeti, one of my first impies and one I still feel conflicted about; so it scores the same.

Batch #5 04 bottle Pours black with a little red at the bottom of the glass. Brown foamy head that doesn’t last too long. Aroma is dark chocolate and dark cherries. Flavor is dark and milk chocolate together with a little black licorice and a mild grassy hop finish. Still a decent bit of alcohol warming up th finish. After taste is lreminicent of Nestle semi-sweet chocolate chips.

Badgerben’s Cellar Reduction night. Dark body with chocolate and coffee malt hints. Similar flavors in the body but both were a little light.

22 oz. Acquired in a trade with Mcbackus. At first pour I thought the brew was black, but when held up to the light its revealed that its actually a mahogany brown color. Minimal head, minimal lace on glass. Mouthfeel is on the heavy side, but a bit light/dry for an Impy. Flavor is of coffee (mild ) and some chocolate and caramel. Alcohol is well hidden. A good brew, I’d love to try the barrel aged version.

2006 vintage bottling. Picked up at a bottle shop in Spokane, WA. Pours an oily pitch black - looks fabulous. Mouthfeel is similarly syrupy/oil like. Could use a touch more carbonation to make it stick. Alcohol is fairly present in the nose and even more apparent in the flavor - very warming. Flavor is much roasty bitter, burnt coffee - and it lingers for days. A little oxidized as there is a minor metallic twang in the flavor - lighting in the store? Perfect for a cold snowy day. Not overly complex, a straight forward - however very flavorful and rich imperial stout. Like usual, I’m a sucker for these... how can I get the BA version?
