The flavor is dark fruit with roasted coffee. Significant alcohol warming with this one. Bier brauen (214), Bremerton, Washington, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Nov 8, 2007 Pours a nice dark black with a thick tan head. Raisin, plum and port like alc. in the aroma with chocolate tones. Very smooth and thick pleasant mouthfeel. If I could do anything to improve it, I’d remove two smidgons of the sweetness. Very drinkable.

| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Nov 7, 2007 Black with small tan head. Nose of alcohol and brown sugar, light roast.
Flavor start bland sweet malt, lasting roasty bitterness in finish. The alcohol presence is too prominent, leaving this offering undercarbonated and syrupy.
A big disappointment actually. holdenn (1443), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 6, 2007 12 oz bottle from discount liquors. Pours a dark black with a soapy dense beige head. Complex nose. Baker’s chocolate, doughy, caramel, toffee, plum, fruit, and licorice. Chocolate and coffee flavors start and lead to a creamy doughy array of plums, dark chocolate, roasted malts, raisins, and alcohol. Finishes dry with licorice and bitter chocolate. Really tasty. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 2, 2007 Updated: Dec 7, 2007Pours tar-thick and the head springs up on you: doesn’t seem like there will be any head and then suddenly there is a nice inch or two of dark lace-leaving foam. Sublime roasty aromas with alcohol detectable. Brilliantly soft, smooth, silky, slightly chewy mouthfeel. Slight licorice-sweetness upon entry reminiscent of oatmeal stouts. Ends clean and bitter as an imp. stout should with assertive but not aggressive hops. The length could stand to be a little longer but all in all it’s a fine brew. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 28, 2007 2006 bottle. Fairly faint aroma coming off of an inky black, mostly head-less pour. Malty, to be sure, but without quite enough real character and definitely a bit too thin on the body. Dry chocolate in the middle of the brew is nice, and a bit of roast in the finish. Not bad, but nothing to make it stand out from many others in the style.
