Pours black with a small light tan head. Nice looking. Big roasty, nutty, chocolatey aroma. A little vanilla really shows up too. Pretty inviting smell. The taste has a lot of toasted malts, roasted chocolate, and burnt charcoal. I get a little bit of dark fruits in there too, which was surprising considering the aroma was mostly roast. Pretty smooth, although not a huge imperial stout alcohol-wise. slightly bitter roasted chocolate in the finish. Lingers into the aftertaste. Pretty good, but nothing special.

Black and fairly thick. Aroma has roasted malt and coffee. Not an especially heavy beer in the flavor, mostly coffee, some chocolate, and roasted malt.

22oz bottle. Aroma: Burnt caramel, light smoke, raisins and cherries, coffee and cocoa. Some piney and light citrus hops come forward as it warms. Appearance: Black and slick looking. Dark tan head was small and frothy with good retention. Nice lacing. Flavor: Deep roasted malt with notes of smoke, coffee, and anise. Dark fruits, caramel, and a nice dose of pine and citrus hops. Alcohol steps in noticeably as it warms. Bitter and slightly sweet finish. Palate: Full bodied. Moderate carbonation. Light alcohol warming in back of mouth. Overall: Flavorful and well balanced stout. Hoppy and full of flavor, but quite drinkable.

Bottle. Pours near black with a medium head. Aroma of coffee and liquorice, with a big American hop presence. Big roasted malt taste with the hops making their presence known. A bit earthy. Alcohol is well hidden.

Originally reviewed back on 1/1/04. Received 4.6 score. Added to my RB list to check "Washington" as a beer state consumed. Big stout with plenty of charred malts and the sting of booziness. Creamy feel. Slippery smooth down the gullet. A great big beer to share at New Year’s. 750mL just wasn’t enough!

Black, thick tan creamy head. Dark roasty nose of chicory, cream, chocolate, and anise, with faint notes of marshmallow and berry. Charred coffee flavors up front mingle well with black chocolate and warm dark currant tones. Nice bitterness in the end pulls it all together very well. Medium bodied, medium carbonation, dry, bittersweet finish. If you see this one, don’t pass it up. A good sippin brew....
