Served at 50 degree (my cellar temp plus 20 minutes in the fridge). Pours black with some ruby highlights on the edges. Average size tan head that qucikly dissipates and leaves a minimal amount of lace. Nose is chocolate and coffee. Taste starts with some sweet molasses and vanilla, then the roastiness qucikly kicks in. A bit of smokiness as well. A dry espresso finish that lingers into the aftertaste, as do some earthy hops. Medium body. Light carbonation. Silky mouthfeel. This is a good one. kramer (2515), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 31, 2007 12 oz bottle, Batch 5, bottled 11/2004, via acertain I believe. Pitch black pour under a dense fine bubbled espresso brown head. Lots of clingy lacing as it receeded to a thin film. Aroma is thick with roasted, burnt, and chocolate malt. Lots of coffee and a little alcohol. Flavor is heavy on the roasted and burnt malt up front fading to a slightly astringent finish with evident alcohol. Aftertaste leaves lots of coffee and some lingering bitterness. Mouthfeel is full bodied and slightly oily in texture. Carbonation is fine, active, and lightly fizzy. Long lingering mouth-coating finish. A pretty nice hearty Imperial Stout. I’d like to try the barrel aged version, I think that this could hold up nicely against a bourbon barrel. hophead75 (1964), Boonton, New Jersey, USA

Bottle has 8% abv on it. Pours pretty much black with a small tan head. Wonderful aroma of roasted malts and bitter chocolate. Flavor is a punch right in the kisser. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 23, 2006 Batch Number 5: Pours with a thick black body that’s almost oil in it’s consistancy. No head to speak of in this beer. Aroma of caramel, chocolate, mollasses and light hops, very thick. Taste is coffee based initially, slightly thinner than the initial pour would suggest. Taste melds into a bitter dark chocolate along with a nice light hop characteristic. Ending is dark chocolate bitter. JJClark (546), Roscoe, Illinois, USA
