Fish Tale Poseidons Imperial Stout (Batch 5 +)

2006 bottle, which makes it batch 6? No head. Thick spiced molasses aroma with notes of chocolate and wine. Thinner body than expected from the aroma, but very nice texture. Warming alcohol. Chocolate and charcoal flavours. Like a chocolate port in the finish. Enjoyable and good.

Bottle poured an opaque black with reddish highlights and a small lingering brown head. Aromas of dark chocolate, roasted malt, dark fruit, light coffee and a bit of vinousness. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of roastiness, dark chocolate, vanilla,a hin of coffee, light smoke and a bit of fruitiness with a lingering bittersweet finish.

My brother-in-law and I pitted this against Rogue’s Shakespeare stout. This was the inferior product, but still well worth a try. Black-brown, creamy brown-sugar head. Rich roasted aromas with alcohol tones ominously apparent. Moderately full mouthfeel, oily. Dark chocolate roasty-toasty flavours with very obvious alcohol in the moderately bitter finish. Definitely simplistic and on the harsh side-- like they took a regular stout and jacked it with grain alcohol. Disappointing really.

Batch 5, November 2004. Pours an opaque blackish brown with a lacy brown head that diminishes to a ring of foam. The aroma has dark chocolate, coffee, smoke, vanilla and nuts. The body is full, oily, with subdued carbonation. The taste is sweet and much like the aroma. Lingering espresso bitter finish.

Flavor was exaclty like semi sweet chocolate, some coffee and spice in the finish. Very dry on the palate, but very good. This would be great to age even longer.

Pours black with a small light tan that faded quickly. A light foam ring remains arond the end of the glass. Has roasted coffee, chocolate, dark fruit aroma. Flavor is very roasty and a tad bit fruity. As the beer warms, more of a smokey flavor comes through. Medium body with a slight roasted malt aftertaste. A good beer.

12 oz. bottle. a very tastey Impy. St. pours black with a quick tan head fading to a hint of lace. flavor is a bit alcoholic with some pruney, chocolate, coffee notes. good stuff!

12oz bottle spawned in November labeled as Poseidon’s Imperial Stout Reel Ale - via trade with Duane! - Thanks Duane! - Pours black with a short tan head that fades quickly to a ring and laces a little from there down. Aroma of dark chocolate, coffee, dark fruits, and a fair amount of vanilla. Flavor is dark chocolate, a touch of coffee, lots of dark fruit (black currant), and a bunch of vanilla. Some light pine on the finish. Smooth almost slick mouthfeel and full body.
