Black. Small, creamy, light brown head. Aroma and flavor of rich and roasty mocha, light and airy sweetness, dark fruits, and licorice. Full, smooth body. Have to try the barrel aged.

Batch 5, bottled November 2004. Black, brown at edge, little head. Fantastic aromas of chocolate and pepsin. Flavors were bittersweet chocolate, touch of spruce, finishing with big hops, spruce. Drinkable and very tasty.

Bottle with no spawned date marked on it. Aroma was sweet, coffee and alcohol. Black body with thin head and that disipated to nothing. Flavor had a stong alcohol presence that seemed to dominate. Sweet flavor all the way through beer. Coffee roast flavors were moderate. More of the thicker body this would of been a great one. Coffee roast aftertate.

Mmmmm, yummy as always. I expected nothing less. Black and viscous, with a sticky brown head. Has a very wine like aroma, some vanilla, chocolate and bing cherries. Flavor is full of coffee and rich smooth chocolate, initially sweet but then turn very dry in the finish. Body is medium, with a finish that does not manage to linger very long.

12 oz bottle

Batch 5 bottled November 2004. Promising aroma contains vinous hints with a primary scent of chocolate dipped cherries. Poured dark black with a thin head and the consistancy of oil. Unfortunately when I got the flavor, things fell apart. There were roasted coffee beans, chocolate and a subtle hint of sour cherries. After that, it quickly fades with nothing left behind. Because of this, a promising stout quickly falls to the middle of the pack. Try it once for the experience but it doesn’t have enough presence to make me want to buy more.

Pours a blackish brown color w/ a shallow, spattered froth. Head retention is NIL and leaves only a thin lace. Aromas of roasted coffe bean and sweet cocoa. Full nectar w/ soft residual effers creating a semi creamy texture. Nice! Big chunky, chocolate roasted malts balanced by a defined hop component w/ a mild sweetness. Theres a fresh and lively essence to this specimen. Bitter cocoa, roasted coffee bean, and mildly sweet molases. The finish is bittered perfectly and leaves a lingering sweet roastiness and asprin burn to ponder. Overall: this is a more mellow specimen going down smooth w/ superb effervescence yet displaying great American hop bittering. It’s like eating pudding sprinkled with asprin.

Batch 5, bottled 11/2004, tasted 1/13/05: totally opaque black color with big light brown head. Aroma is slightly medicinal, with hints of clove, menthol, underying touches of coffee, liquorish, dark chocolate. Flavor is dry, with notes of ash, chocolate, anise, coffee, and vanilla. Finish is moderately bitter, ashy, touch of clove, with a mild sweetness as it drops down.

Pours a glistening blackish brown with faint tan head. Nose is huge and chocalaty with some subtle alcohol and roasty notes, even has a fruity sour tinge to it. Flavor is mellow and smooth, with velvety roasted malts and again chocolate playing a big role. Sweet with very little bitterness, and little to no alcohol in the flavor. Yum, yum.
