Rich, roasty chocolatey nose. Taste is pretty sweet with notes of toffee, roasted malts, dark fruits, chocolate, coffee and piney hops - you can pick up the Columbus and Cascade in here. Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Overall, good stuff. I’d really like to try the barrel aged version now. badgerben (3600), Blaine, Minnesota, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 17, 2005 Dark with small head. Aroma was enticing, with hints of fruit, malt and alcohol. Feel in the mouth was neither thick nor thin. Taste was quite nice, malty/fruity at the start, and slightly bitter/smokey going down. Quite an enjoyable brew. BeerLimey (1873), California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 31, 2005 Intensely dark, lifeless pour. Creamy dark roasted malt aroma, mild smoked meat, fairly hoppy with alcohol noticeable. Chewy smoked barbacue meat flavor with strong coffee roast and dark chocolate. Lots of hop citrus in the second half, pretty strong to show its way through, plenty of grapefruit in the aftertaste. Ughsmash (4025), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 22, 2005 Bottle, Batch No. 5. Very nice medium-viscocity black pour with some deep brown highlights. Initial 1/4" brownish-beige head recedes exceptionally quickly. I love the aroma of rich chocolate, caramel, and the Pac NW hops... Taste buds picked up some cocoa from the aroma, mildly bitter coffee, licorice, alcohol, dark fruits, and grapefruit zest. Fairly well-balanced, but the bitterness factor was a little rough. Medium-length baker’s chocolate finish was much appreciated. Somewhat warming. Pretty big alcohol presence in the finish as this one warmed. Hopefully I’ll be able to get my hands on the B.A. Poseidons...
