How they create such a feathery creation is a mystery to me-- they must beat the hell out of some oats. There is a clear vinous quality that seems to characterize many great stouts. Smokey, burnt coffee more than chocolate but niether note is overplayed so as to drown out the subtle fruit, spice, licorice, vanilla, tobacco notes. There is also a faint meaty note that I’m very surprised to find a nice fit. Meaty note disappears after you have drank half the bottle so the flavor sort of evolves as you drink. This would mix great with brandy-- I can’t think of any other brew that could. $3.29 single from woodmans in madison wi. cool label. daninferior (4), USA does not count | 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 20/20 | May 10, 2008 pours pitch black, nice mild tan head, real malty, really smooth on the palate, finishes really nice w/mild bite from the alcohol, really simillar to stones russian imperial stout 19641948 (491), Greensboro, North Carolina, USA

Added to my RB list to check "Washington" as a beer state consumed. Big stout with plenty of charred malts and the sting of booziness. Creamy feel. Slippery smooth down the gullet. A great big beer to share at New Year’s. 750mL just wasn’t enough!

Head retention is NIL and leaves only a thin lace. Aromas of roasted coffe bean and sweet cocoa. Full nectar w/ soft residual effers creating a semi creamy texture. Nice! Big chunky, chocolate roasted malts balanced by a defined hop component w/ a mild sweetness. Theres a fresh and lively essence to this specimen. Bitter cocoa, roasted coffee bean, and mildly sweet molases. The finish is bittered perfectly and leaves a lingering sweet roastiness and asprin burn to ponder. Overall: this is a more mellow specimen going down smooth w/ superb effervescence yet displaying great American hop bittering. It’s like eating pudding sprinkled with asprin.

| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Oct 27, 2006 Bottled in 2004. Batch 5. Wow this is great! Its like chocolate flavored whipped cream, because its smooth creamy, and almost fluffy on the palate, with a rich chocolatey taste. It also has some roasted malt, caramel, a bit of fruitier sweetness in the finish, some noticeable alcohol but mostly in the aroma, and some hops in the flavor. It looks pretty nice too, super dark with a dark brown head. I dont really have anything bad to say about this beer, aside from the extra alcohol that takes over a bit too much in the aroma. | 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 26, 2005 Practially black, yet seemingly more brownish in most light. Thin but thick set dark tanned, evenly firm foam sits atop and hardly moves from there. Laces in thinnly placed sheeting.
Big time waft of oaky bourbon drenched in dark chocolate with nice little notes to sweetness in molasses, dark cherry, raisin, and prune.
Smooth taster, bold, lavish, chocolate sets the tone in the front with a softer, sweet dark fruity backing of raisin and fig.
Slips to coffee roast and burnt barely. Staying smooth.
Turns to a bittering chocolate and hop dance as it finishes.
Chocolate returns late, softening the bitter blow a bit.
Bitterness still intertwines the palate with a well-rounded warmth from the decadently easy alcohol that sifts through the chocolate.
Feel is smooth and silky with a great chocolate body and low carbonation level that speaks to the point of most Imperial Stout-types. Full, rich, evenly heavy, and continuing smooth. Oh so smooth...
A very nice stout. Big, chocolatey, rich, and inticing. Fish Tales’ Poseidon’s Imperial Stout sea is some smooth sailing. Going across it is a cinch. BigBastard (668), L.A., California, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 31, 2006 Flavor was exaclty like semi sweet chocolate, some coffee and spice in the finish. Very dry on the palate, but very good. This would be great to age even longer.
