acblue (50), Seattle, Washington, USA Oct 25, 2009 Very light amber, off-white head. Very floral, very crisp, nice hop bitterness up front and a malty finish. Good stuff. neepsntatties (281), Portland, Oregon, USA Oct 6, 2009 12 oz. bottle of the the ’09 winter season release. Colour... golden orange with a thick head. Nose... quite piney! Palate... Wow! Didn’t expect so much hop character. Quite bitter but nicely balanced. Seems better to me than previous releases! bulldogops (153), Alberta, Canada Aug 11, 2009 Updated: Oct 29, 2009Ratings seem to be all over the map. The bottle I got at Metro should be categorized as a Premium Bitter/ESB. Clear amber pour with a decent white/tan head. Aroma is sweet fruits, very hoppy. Taste is super bitter hops, was expecting a spicy, fruity winter beer, and instead, I feel like I’m in London. If I’m in Washington state, I will try to find this on tap and find out what’s going on. I wanna try the beer Vertical Bacon and Cirrhosis enjoyed. (2.5)
Rerate. New bottle. Much better. Bitter hops balanced by crisp and lingering sweetness. Aroma was also much stronger, sweet peach/apricot smell. Decent. Vertical Bacon Strips (874), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Jun 11, 2009 Poured out a large creamy light tan head with 360 degree lacing that sat on top a peach / amber beer. Huge sweet aroma. I loved the smell, I could probally sniff this until it evaporated - maybe I was in the mood for a sweet beer. Odd, considering I expected a nice dark winter beer, not an IPA. Pinapple and those fuzzy peach gummy candies - just a whole hell of alot of hops. I wish there was a bit more malt aroma though. Taste is a blast of pretty sharp bitterness, which I love. Sweet peaches bordering on too sweet. Malt taste is blended in there as an extra. Intense hop taste and candy. Mouthfeel was quite smooth with a good swish and some heavy duty spicy bitter aftertaste. Meduim light bodied. I was pissed off to find out that I wasn’t getting a typical winter seasonal, but I guess this was ok instead. Cirrhosis (607), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Jun 5, 2009 Bright apricot to brilliant orange in color, almost no head was produced in during the pour, how ever beecronic got a massive cap on his how very strange, looks like the will be a tasty beer but a touch boring to look at. Smells like fuzzy peach sour candy, so very peachy smelling, so much delicious aroma, aggressive tart smelling hops but not sickening like if find some other IPA’s to be, I this smells so good I can’t stop sniffing. Hopriffic flavor, sweet candied peaches, grapes, and tons of mind numbing bitterness but some how no bitter after taste. Such a good find, drink it if you can find it. LinusStick (1830), Moon Twp, suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 11, 2009 Acquired via trade with Chewy. Thanks man. Wow am I drinking a different beer than the rest of these people? Aroma was weak. A light hoppiness with some grass. Smells like a pilsner. Pour was a thick orange with a thin off white ring for a head. Taste was very weak. Nothing in the front, but there is a hoppy aftertaste with hints of ginger ale (the soft drink). Drinkable, but not very good. Bradrcr (778), Renton, Washington, USA Feb 22, 2009 1/17/09 On draft at the Brewpub, Olympia, Wa. Aroma is heavy caramel blended with spicy, but not bitter flora. Appearance is clear gold with a well maintained white head. Flavor is rich with candilike sweetness and a floral but still grassy and earthy (never harsh) hop balance. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a slight tang and medium carb texture. Overall, a beer that impresses with the ability to drink it quickly without compromising on big flavor. kitschy (197), Nebraska, USA Feb 18, 2009 Gummy grapefruit goodness! A smooth double ipa that warmed up my February day. Sparkling amber color with nice lacing.
