Taste has a sweet and sour bite to start with, then it moves to a nice hoppy malt body finishing with a bitter hop finish. beerinmarch (2829), Washington, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 28, 2004 More like an IPA than a winter seasonal. Pours a nice amber color with a fluffy white head that leaves moderate lacing. Nice citrusy hopped aroma with a little malty sweetness behind it. The bottle has some mystical fish on it, but i guess releasing this hoppy of a winter brew is kinda mystical in itself. Great bitterness to this brew and it has a really dry end to it. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 16, 2004 Nice appearance, luminescent orange/amber, a moderately thin off-white head on my pour into a Leffe goblet. Good general aroma in the APA/strong ale vein, very citrus driven with clearly aromatic hops. The flavor is more mundane, being resolutely bitter in the early going, though with enough on the malt side to make things interesting. Still, it was too plainly hop-bitter, basically dry. Doesn’t seem like 7%. BBB63 (4238), La Porte, Indiana, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Mar 11, 2004 Orangy hue with a okay white head and very good lace. The aroma hints of pine sap, grapefruit, peach, toasted biscuit, zesty yeast esters, and a mild sweet spices. The taste starts very bitter and fruity. The malt character is only found towards the finish, before a another hit of bitterness and spicy tones kick in. I don't know what it is, but this beer isn't sweet and is hoppy like an IPA, gets old quick. The mouthfeel is lively, dry, and astringent. Not really an winter ale, just a slightly spicy IPA. Not complex or very fully balanced either. A sample would do you fine, the second half of the bottle is a waste. Eyedrinkale (3209), Astoria, New York, USA

Way too sweet and that was offset by the wacky malt used. An almost disgusting balance that just didn't work for me. JohnC (2283), Mission Viejo, California, USA

Piney floral aroma. Fresh spruce forest taste to it with pineapple, resin and an orange peel finish. Hop juice with character.
