Aroma of sweet mapley caramel with some earthy dark chocolate. Body starts sweet and fairly rich with good dark caramel and chocolate maltiness along with molasses. A very nice oatmeal stout. muzzlehatch (4427), Burlington, Vermont, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 30, 2004 Sample at the brewpub. Lasting creamy bubbly tan covering atop a ruby-accented blackness -- cocoanut and sweet chocolate eddy in the huge roasty nose -- rich and decadent wine-soaked chocolate cake is touched by vanilla, a hint of bourbon warmth leaves a memorable impression. Tan head stays with the beer. Aroma of dark chocolate, roasted caramel malt, some coffee and flowery hops. Taste is smooth, creamy, lightly carbonated, and heavy body. Finish is smooth, and little hop bitterness. badgerben (3599), Blaine, Minnesota, USA

Good malty aroma followed up by an oatmeal presence in the taste. A solid roastiness to it as well. A bit on the watery side, but still tasty. Good grief... #500. 500 down, 500 to go! I don’t think Fitger’s makes a bad beer and this might be Minnesota’s premier brewer. The beer is black, and the aroma has roasted malt and light smoke. Some coffee in the flavor, more roasted grains and a moderately palate. It is very smooth and easy to drink. Nuffield (2724), Roseville, Minnesota, USA
